Default New Vision owner in Michigan

Just wanted to say hello from Mid-Michigan or the flat-lands. I've been riding since the late 60's and just picked up my new-to-me 2010 Vision on Friday. It has a totally different feel than my '97 Concours but I figure I'll get used to it and I suspect it'll be far more comfortable riding and pulling that camper of mine.

I DO have a tech question (that should probably be in the tech section) though. The original owner pulled the fuse to the radio because it had a short in it. Neither of us is big radio fans anyway, but I'm surprised the bike, with only 13,000 miles on it, would have radio trouble in the first place. I'm not in a hurry to spend $500 on something I'd normally not use anyway.

Was there a recall or am I just too picky?

Welcome from CT. Can't offer much help on the radio, but if you aren't using it, I say just ride it as is.

No recalls or number of complaints regarding radio shorts. I suspect previous owner had done some kind of attempt at an upgrade or wiring . I would pull the dash up and take a look to see if you see a bared wire or evidence of altered or added wiring in there. My 2011 has stock system with the addition of Polk speaker upgrades and performs and sounds good. Put another correct amp fuse in and see what happens.

Welcome to the forum.
If you want to get to the radio and look around you need to pull 2 screws at the base of the center console, one in the glovebox on the left side and two under the instrument panel area. To get at the two on the bottom you just lift the small panel off that covers them. With the glove box and the fuel door open just pull straight up and it will come off. To get at the ones under the instrument panel you need to pull the bezels straight off. It can be hard to get a grip there and people have indicated the best way is to use some of those plastic pry bars made for trim work. Again it just comes straight off. Don't bend and twist it or it will break. Once all the screws are out the center console panel will lift right off but there are wires going to those switches across the top so don't just jerk it out of the way. Disconnect switches as you go.

a table knife works great on the gauge bezel. To pull the panel in front of seat open glove box door

Default short in the radio

Just for giggles I replaced the 25 amp fuse the original owner had taken out in order to hear just how "bad" this radio short was. Well, the radio seemed to work fine but when I turned everything off and backed that new-to-me Vision into the garage I noticed the radio was flashing off and on. Couldn't get it to stop no matter what I did so I finally pulled the fuse back out.

That might explain why he threw in a set of jumper cables.

FarRyder

Hope you come back here. Take your vin number and ask the service tech if he will look up to see if there is a extend warranty on the bike. It might coast you $25 bucks to get it in your name and am guessing you would another year or two on warranty on bike.
