Default New Mexico Riders

I'm looking for some information. I'm riding across New Mexico April 29th and 30th 2017. Headed to Tucson, Arizona. I'm taken 380 from Texas to New Mexico to 60. I want to pick up New Mexico state highway 12 off of 60 at Datil. What would the weather be like riding HW 12 to Alpine, AZ. At the end of April? I can't find much information on the road . Elevations are pretty high in areas. Over 7,000 ft. at the great divide. I wanted to ride the lower part of the Cortez Trial in Arizona on the way to Tucson. Stay off the enter states on the way down. Then hit the slab coming home. Any information would be help full.

Riding: 2011 XC
Sold: 2003 Vegas
Totaled: 2003 TC, But it's still on the road.
Sold: 2004 TC
This is Just the list of Victory's. I have also rode and owned Honda's, Kawasaki's, Suzuki's, Harley's. Some old European bike. Can't remember the name. It was a 3 speed and I started riding on a 50cc bike that Sears sold. Some time around 1967. I have had my motorcycle license since 1969.

I recently moved to New Mexico from Minnesnowta. LOL I've been talking to many folks who live here and I had been a snowbird in Apache Junction AZ for the last 5 winters and rode my Cross Country throughout the state and also some into Utah and Colorado. Like AZ, the higher elevations in New Mexico will be much cooler than the low lands and April, I'm told, is a rainy or snowy month so be aware of that as you ride through New Mexico to Tuscon.

Was westbound on Hwy 60 going through Pie Town a few years ago in May of the year - in the car. Left Las Cruces wearing sleeveless T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. About ten miles either side of Pie Town was snowing like crazy. Made for an interesting ride for a while with nothing but snow flakes and a inch or two of snow on the ground . . . dressed in summer attire. A beautiful ride. As mentioned . . . those high elevations can be tricky with isolated weather systems passing through.

Just check before you leave. Was 60 degrees and sunny then 24 and a blizzard in 24hr. Lol. Weather channel a week before you leave and feel it out. All the advice I have but it will be a beautiful ride for sure.

Hey I made that post in January 2017. 15 months ago. It was a great trip. Started out a little cool, but great after we got past Ruidoso, NM.

Lol. Someone resurrected an old post. Anyway glad you had a great trip. I moved here 4 months ago and just bought my bike so haven't even made a long trip around here yet.
