Default 07 Victory Hammer Belt Resonance

Hey guys,

When i first bought my bike 4 months ago I ordered a tension gauge and adjusted it to about a half inch deflection @ 10 lbs. Well since then I took off the lowering kit the bike had and also added alot of preload to the bike. This more than likely raised the bike to about 1" higher than stock. I did this to be able to have a little more fun around the turns. The other day i wanted to re adjust the belt tension per manual. When i set it at 15/32" like it says (For an 06 Hammer unless they changed it in 07) It felt extremely tight and had a really bad vibration hitting bumps, turning etc so i turned around and loosened it up a bit. That vibration went away, now i just have a resonance before coming to a stop around 5-10mph. Yes I had the bike lifted and yes it was cold with the original adjustment i set it at. I believe it has something to do with the geometry of the bike being raised up. I am guessing if i went and checked the tension would be about 3/4." Has anyone ran into this? I have also felt the belt on the ride side while stopped with my girlfriend on the back to see how it feels. Still seems to be just a little more tight than it should. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

when a belt gets warm or hot the belt should become tight

Something to check. When you stop and hop off the bike; go and look to see where the belt is riding on the back pulley. If it is all the way to one side or the other you need to adjust it again until it rides in the middle. This can be a pain but in the end it's pretty much the only thing to stop the pulley from singing unless you want to put some wax or soap on the belt edges.

Sometimes you do everything right and there's still some resonance sound coming from the friction between the belt edge and the pulley. In that case using a lube is the only way to stop it. Many of us have been doing it for years like this.

By raising the bike you can't use the factory specs any more to adjust the belt in that raised position. Your belt will be too tight.
Lower the suspension to the stock setting and use the factory specs for a bike set to those settings, with the factory link or whatever you used to change the ride height. You need the correct tension specs for the equipment you are running at the standard height.
If what you have is non standard then you will have to develop your own spec from scratch for belt tightness but it sounds like you are using a factory setup so if you lower the bike back to where it would sit from the factory the factory tightness spec should work at that height.

Verify that all is well with your belt adjustment by test driving it. Then let the bike sit over night to get cold and re raise your bike's suspension and make new measurements with your gauge for future use when you want adjust your belt tension in the future with the bike raised.

Looks like the belt is riding on the left side of the pulley. However, i adjusted the back tire evenly on both sides going off the indicators. Its the best the bike has ever tracked letting go of the handlebars.

So from now on I guess i will adjust the back tire to match the belt on the pulley. Also, i checked deflection by twisting the belt. You can twist it about 60-70 degrees.
