Default Finding neutral

Hi

I canít seem to find neutral going from first up or second down , eventually after a few gentle attempts I find it .

I use victory oil kits , itís a 2008 hammer with 8000kms. I bought few bike with 4000 KMs always had the issue .

Anyone know what could be causing ?

Hey mate, when you are standing still and put it in first gear, does the bike want to crawl forward ? It is a good start to check your free-play of the clutch before anything else

Download the manual from member @BBob ( click in his name ) and in his signature is a link to all manuals, i printed it in A3 at a printshop for easy reading, great help to work on these bikes

what were you riding before the Vic?
if it was a big twin Harley theyre a seperate gearbox and as such theres no problem finding neutral.
My previous experience has all been on 60s 70s 80s Jap bikes with unit gearboxes inside the engine...now with every Japbike Ive ridden you really had to find neutral while the bike was still moving and once stopped I had no chance.
Victorys arent quite that bad but they are unit construction with the box inside the engine as as such they can be quirky to find neutral.
try to just tap it lightly down from 2nd.
If it ends up in first just try to lightly snick it up into neutral,...while still moving...its easier.
Also easier with fresh oil as well as with a correctly adjusted clutch as mentioned already.
I dont like Victory oil, its overpriced and turns to slop in a couple of thousand kms.
Get some decent oil in it for a start,
ensure your clutch is adjusted right,
and try to get neutral while still rolling.
Thats how I do it anyway.
Just easier and I been doing it that way all my life .

Hey everyone.

I also ride a Ducati which Neutral comes easy.

first gear clutch in no roll . I will try measuring my adjustment and see what happens .

I really enjoy riding this bike however was more concerned if my tranny had issues.

I believe you still have the old type tranny. My 04 was like that at times. It had the heel toe shifter, a gentle tap with the my heel was most effective. I still have issues at times with my 2011 especially if I stop while still in second ( by mistake) Now it is hard to get into first or neutral. I attribute that to operator error.

Slip it into neutral while still rolling... or... shut it off then put it in neutral.

Sitting there yanking up and down on the shifter is just wearing out your shift ratchet for no reason. Work around it. You are smarter than that transmission.

I checked the adjustment seems within reason. I also did notice at times in neutral my indicator green light isnít lit up .

Since I am new to victory seems to be normal perhaps , this is my only complaint I have in respects to my victory .

Adapt your shifting technique, Vics are unique, its not a Duke or a Harley.
re read my previous post....Half Crazy is right....snick it while still rolling.
Get some better oil too.

When I had my 2006 Touring Cruiser (bought used with 45000 mi) I had the same issue. I thought it was a normal thing with Victory’s since it was the first Victory I had ever ridden. When I sold it to a dealer (then had 60000+ mi) they said it needed a clutch. Of course you have many fewer miles than I had but It might be worth checking out.
