2004 Kingpin Shifting issues
Okay I am posting this for a friend (Caveman). He is a member here but it not computer literate.
History: 2004 kingpin touring, 23k, 92ci, victory performance pipes everything else appears stock. He just bought the bike from a private seller here in town. Seller states that the bike was service in March with an oil change, new rear tire, new belt and has new front tire but was not installed.
Issue: Left seller home, bike seemed to run fine with no issues. After riding the bike for awhile he started having issues downshifting. If he hit the shifter hard it would eventually down shift. Then it wouldn't down shift once he got the bike home. Seems to upshift fine.
After work I stopped by the take a look and found that the Oil (Victory oil) looked like it had more than 1500 miles on it and was about 1/8 quart low. The clutch lever had no play in it and was a workout to squeez it in. After loosening the clutch up a bit I was able to get about 1-2mm in play and what do you know it started down shifting but was still hit or miss. So I suggested that he change the oil since it is a wet clutch and give it a try and let me know.
Oil got changed to Amsoil 20w-50 and a Wix oil filter. After warming up the bike won't shift into any gear it seems. Appears to be in 3rd gear and won't come out.
After comparing my 2003 vegas clutch arm to his I noticed that his clutch arm sticks out to the left noticably further than mine and there is still room for the clutch arm to move in with the clutch lever all the way depressed on his bike. When trying to shift it sounds like it is not catching and slipping right past.
The nearest Victory dealer is 100 miles away so we are looking for suggestions, things to try or to look at to maybe better diagnose it.
Thanks for your time.
