Default Kingpin plate replacement without spending the $$$

I bought my 08 Pin back in May and immediately wanted to change the ugly stock plate. I searched and replacements ranged from $150 up to $280. That was just too much. Instead I pieced together a couple of items and they came out great. I spent a total of about $60 when complete. I bought the Arlen Ness plate adapter ($25) for the kingpin, then found a slightly used, Kuryakyn curved license plate on Ebay. These two pieces matched well together and gave me the laydown, curved look I wanted, similar to the MBW plate but a lot cheaper. If your state requires lights, mine does, you can buy the Kuryakyn light bolts for about $15. I only used one since the wires that needed to be sliced were tiny. Overall, I love the look and the money still in my wallet. I've had numerous compliments, especially from people that saw the previous plate. I hope this helps someone else out there that hates the stock plate. - CPT Dan

Default RE: Plate

I did the same thing, but with all new parts for @$120. I bought 2 lights since I thought it might look wierd with one (symmetry). Can u tell I am an engineer. I used heat shrink and tie straps to dress the wires. Probably could have done a better job, but it looks pretty clean. My pics are on my profile at https://www.victoryforums.com/album.php?albumid=142.

I like the look and it was well under half the price of the other options.

Default RE:Plate

Dan it does look nice. The only concern I would have is the LED light wires. They are like 22 guage and flimsy. Because of that and the fact that I used 2 lights I added heat shrink and tie straps around the wires for stress relief. I put wider diameter heat shrink around the bolts and thinner heat shrink aroud the wires. It doesn't look as clean, but I think it will be more durable. I will take some close up picks. I am sure (if I wasn't so darn impatient) I could have dressed it out better, but it is what it is. It looks tons better than stock. By the way sweet ride and I am glad someone else used this approach it makes me feel like I didn't just cheap out.

if you want a nice low buck mod. Do what I did.

I cut 2 slots in the raised dimples of the bracket, and slowly bent the bracket down so its more laid down. Looks like the Witchdoctor one, but cost me nothing. To cover the holes, I simply took out the map gas torch and a brazing rod, filled the slots and painted it engine flat black. Of course it your chrome then U need to dish out the cash.

Glenn nice bike, but I like the laydown radius look much better. For only thirty bucks more I am happy with my choice. Also it does not look like there is lighting on your plate which would not pass a state inspection where I live. The lighting I added accounts for the difference in price. To each his/her own.
