Default Hardbad mounting question.

Hi,

I picked up a pair of hardbags, with mounts, on an online auction site. They are in great condition, but came with no installation instructions.

You can see, in the photo, there are three mounting points. The two at the top attach to the rear fender rail and the lower one attaches to the passenger foot-peg.

My question is this:

Do the bag brackets mount under or over the existing mounts?

Many thanks,

James.

If your talking about the rails on each side of the fender, then it's over.
I'm using my Vegas as reference so it may be different for your bike.

Ok, so the top two mounts go over the rails. What about the peg mount. Does it go against the frame with the peg on top or does it sit on top of the peg mount?

Thanks,

Thanks,
If I remember correctly it sits on top... Mount up the two top bolts and you will see where the other one goes.

I just did mine on my king pin a couple of weeks ago. You will probably need to go to the hardware store and get a little longer bolt to go through the chrome pieces on the rear fender. Once you get them in, you will see where the other parts of the bracket fit. it took me 10 minutes to do it other than the tript to the hardware store for longer bolts. Don't get too long as it will protrude through and possibly damage your back tire. Also use a little thread lock so they won't back out.

Any chance either of you have a close up photo of the install? Am going to have a go tomorrow, so hope it goes well.
Many thanks!

I don't have any pics. You will need to take off the battery cover and matching plastic piece on the other side under the seat. Once you do that, and hold the brackets up to the two holes on the rear fender you will see it clearly. There will be a vacant hole ready to be screwed into. Once you hold the bag and bracket up you will see this is a no brainer. Just take your bolts up with you to the hardware store so you get the right thread pattern and go with about 3/4 -1 inch longer than stock that holds on your chrome fender pieces on. The bolts that go into the frame under the battery cover can be a little shorter. Good luck, it will be super easy. No rocket science needed there.

Had to order the longer bolts. Got the installation instructions emailed across from the dealer. No local hardware places had them in stock, so being sent from across the country. Will install the bags once they arrive and post before and after pics.

Hope this helps anyone else installing these brackets.

FINISHED!!!

The longer bolts arrived. Great service by Stig Fasteners in Darlington. I ordered them yesterday at 4pm and they were here today.

Had a battle lining up the bolts with the holes in the frame as the rails were getting in the way and making it difficult to see where they had to go on. In the end, I loosely attached just the from mount on the rear passenger peg and swung the bracket up to meet the fender.

Thanks, as ever, for all the help and advice. Much appreciated Guys!

Here she is in all her glory, with new and improved buttocks:
