Default Stage 1 kit

Hi all. I'm new to the Victory world, but plan on being here along time. We just bought my wife a 2008 Vegas Low. Quite an upgrade from the Vulcan 900 she had. We haven't been able to ride too much yet, but she is already making the list of accessories. One of the things she wants is pipes. She doesn't want anything overly loud and obnoxious. Just a nice rumble. I'm looking at the Victory Stage 1 kit and found a very good price on one on ebay. My question is, is it worth the money? Are the pipes really loud? Do you notice a difference in performance? Should we wait until the bike has a few miles on it? Is it worth the money? Just wanted to see what the experts think.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,
Not an expert but like to share my experiences in hopes it may be helpful. I have an 07 8ball with the stage 1 shotgun pipes. I couldn't tell you performance difference because I had them put on before it left the showroom. I think the pipes have a nice tone to them and aren't obnoxious. When you get into it, they will turn some heads. The down swept pipes are a little louder. I definitely think it's worth the money. Just remember that if you buy a stage one kit off ebay, you will need to have your ECU remapped. I thought about doing the same thing to save a buck but wasn't comfortable with the download.

I have the stage 1 2 into 1 kit and love the sound. I too didin't want anything that was so loud you had to wear ear plugs. The pipes are relatively quite if you don't get into it but as soon as you hit the throttle it has a nice deep throaty sound.

With the Victory stage 1 exhausts, the quitest will be the slip on replacements. Next will be the two into one (which also gives the best power boost) then the swept, shotgun and drag pipes. The last three are noticably louder than stock. If you are in an area that cracks down on loud exhaust, those will get you pulled over.

Will you notice the power boost? Probably not very much. You will notice that throttle response is improved. The horsepower gain is about 5-10 horsepower depending on which pipe you select. When you are starting with 85 horsepower, going to 90 won't overwhelm you.

if you visit your vic dealer and another [ if thats possible, depending on your geographical location] they more than likely have a bike or two demos with different types of pipes you can listen to and more likely than not let you ride, I just took my 09 vegas in for the 500 mile service, my bike is totally stock, with the exception of 4.5 " handle bar risers, the bike now runs stronger and quieter the dlr had a demo with stage 1 slip-on that he let me ride and I was sold, so Ill put another 500 or so miles on her and then Ill have the pipes put on, personally I would bite the bullit and buy new through your dlr. and let him do the install / re-mapping if theres a problem you have somewhere to take it.

Like NV said the slip-ons are the quietest. Stage 1 shotguns and drags are considerably louder.

Also as was advised by stevie3x go to a dealer and see if they have other pipes already installed.

Sound is a matter of preference. What is obnoxious to one rider may be birds singing to another. LOL
