Default Newbie Question: Full Choke at Every Startup?

I am a new Victory rider (I had a 2000 Suzuki Marauder until an SOB in South Carolina rear ended me...).

I bought a 2007 Vegas 8ball with 2k miles on it. Everything is blacked out except the new chrome swept pipes I had installed.

I am still new at the maintenance and repair world (but want to learn). When the dealer was running through the basics of the bike with me and showing me locations of some parts he told me I need to go with a full choke EVERY time I start the bike. I should let it warm up for a couple minutes, then pull it back and ride.

With my old bike I only used the choke when it was cold or needed a little extra kick when the bike hadn't been riden in a while.

Do I really need a full choke and wait 2 minutes before I ride EVERY TIME?

Welcome and congratulations on your Vic.

Our bikes don't have chokes. They are actually a fast idle.

Depending on the setting of your fast idle a minute or so is good warm up. I personally run my bike at about 2500rpm for a minute or so.

If engine temp is below 125F then you want to turn the bars to the left, and engage fast idle to get engine to run at 12-1500RPM. Do this while you are putting on gloves, etc, and you will be fine. Engine temp above 125f, and there is no need

Default Rpm

Again - I am ignorant. How do I check the RPM? What is standard?

As with my previous bike, I know it needs to warm up a sec or so first...but after riding a while it needs to warm up?

Base idle is 1000+-50. If you do not have a tch then run up the high idle until the bike is smooth

Default RPM and Temp

I have only riden my Victory 3 days () before she went into storage for the winter. So I cannot picture if she has a tach or not (2007 Vegas 8ball). I think she does.

How do I check the temp to know if it at 125F? And what do you mean by "smooth?" She starts up smooth just about every time.

Default cold or hot

Come spring you will get to know her all over again. If you start the bike and its chuging then you need to add the fast idle. Don't look to deep in to it. Get a feel for it and enjoy.

Well you are 98.6f, and if it feels warmer then you; it is close to 125f

Play with the fast idle, and you will see what I mean by smooth
