Default Where to start 03' Vegas performance mods

Just wondering where to start with performance mods on my 03 vegas.

Eventually I want to get the big bore kit but until then what will keep me happy building up to that point?
The guy I bought it from said it has a stage1 kit so basically the only thing done to or so far is just the k&n filter upgraded mufflers and a tune.

I wanted to go nuts right away but I didn't have a shop I trusted to do the work and everyone talked me out of doing the big bore kit myself.
Got the bike a little over a year ago and only had ~2k miles on it and now has around 10k miles. It's so damn clean np one believes it's an 03'.haha
Anyway still by no means bored with it but would love to hop off again saying "holy shit". 😉

PO added stage1 air kit and exhaust. No idea what pipes they are but loving the rumble.

Most people has the same boltons, and they work wonders ...

But now there is Maximus vs PCV that must be your own choice ... Done by a tuner of cource ....

1. PCV ( & timing wheel )
Or
1. Maximus ( no timing wheel )

2. Torque Tubes
3. Under Drive Pulley
4. Speed limit removal & RPM raised to 6400 rpm & drop in cams
5. Better tires
6. Lyndall brake pads
7. Exhaust ...

highly suggest to change the following fluids
# brake fluid
# front fork fluid (the easy way)
# do you know what and when last oil change was done ?

There is also the PV CX. ECU tuning like Maximus. An interface like the Maximus with added features of display screen, ability to clear codes, do narrow band 02 sensor tuning and like the Maximus no timing wheel needed.

Wtf I never heard of maximus before. I'll have to read up on it. Yeah man I changed the oil right away. Used the victory oil kit. Is there oil you'd recommend? That damn vic oil is stupid expensive!

Oh damn! Thanks tenax.
I think I'll go with one of those over pcv and timing wheel. Does the timing wheel even fit the 03'? I was going to buy one but i keep reading it's for 08' and up...

Looking at the maximus and they say 2008 and up. I'm guessing this isn't compatible with my 2003 vegas...

Any oil that is JASO MA2 (wet clutch) is good

In my jackpot i use victory oil
In my CCT i used MOTUL or RedLine or anything i can get my hands on .... But shell or anything is OK ... 15W40 or about so ...

But where i live i NEVER stay in 1 gear more then 10 minutes and it is HOT, so i change oil at 6k kilometers ... (did oil analasis) but once the bike shifts with minor difficulty then just change it ...

I'd also be interested in knowing the answer to this question. I think my '07 could use one, but I don't know if it will work. I thought I saw someone say that you can do it, it's just not as easy as it is for the '08 and up bikes. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Guys, you can't use the maximus on anything pre 08.. the vic's before that had an open loop fuel injection system and that won't work with the maximus.
If you want to do mods to the older bikes you have to get a piggy back tuner of some kind and it has to be FOR the older bikes. The newer model tuners also only work on 08 and later.

If I were going to hop up an 03.. I'd get ahold of an airbox from Lloydz, most likely a TTi if you want the best... then get pipes and a tune. Call that a 'Stage 2' since that will net you a BUNCH over any of the stage 1 from dealer crap. After that decide how far you wanna go.. if no big bore then get a set of cams that will work and retune... if you are then do the bore and get the cams that best suit the big bore setup. Least amt of money wasted in total from start to finish.

If it were me.. i'd call Rylan Voss at the TheVicShop and have him tell ME what to do to it. I'd trust Lloydz too.. or KevinX at SotherMotorWorx. There are others that are reliable and dependable but these guys are the best and honest.

I did NOT follow this advice when I did my stuff and I paid for it as have others. You have the advantage of being able to benefit from all the guys that have done this before you...do it right the first time and you'll benefit in every way possible.
