thanks to all that replied. I cleaned up the darker area where it looked like there could be oil. It hasnt returned, so I guess i'm all set. Now off for a 2K mile run down to Big Bend National Park next week. Can't wait!

Mine has a slightly darker area adjacent to the primary.
It never drips, to me its not a worry.
I did buy a new primary gasket and copper washer a while back to internally shim up the shifter slop but never got around to it...too busy riding the thing!
And since I learned on here how to shift gears I rarely have a problem unless Im tired and very lazy into second.
I wouldnt worry about it, maybe check the Allen bolts.
I may check mine this morning, or I may not.
Its not a worry.

I've seen many new Vics that do this. Usually no problem, as the bike breaks in it disappears.
The Vic engine is one oil sump, crankcase and transmission, and is under positive pressure when running. Ask anyone who forgets to replace the dip stick and starts the engine...
The primary cover has a gasket with an embedded gel sealer, and new engines often have not been run enough (i.e. hot enough) to properly seat the gasket.
Check the bolts, wipe it off, and take it for a good hard ride.

Take a 6mm allen and check all the bolts. Do every other one that way you get even pressure on the cover. Don't go more then a 1/8 turn

I would wash it off and see how it does. Got over 23K on my 2011 XRs and if I do not wash it for awhile I see a small collection of dirt along the surface where the primary bolts to the engine. Unless it is actually dripping or you know it is loosing oil with it sitting overnight I would not worry about it. Took my bike in for an actual oil leak. A sender was leaking, it was the o-ring on it. Took it in, got it back, it leaked worse. They were going to call ma vic and see about tearing down the complete engine to do the output shaft seal. I suggested in a nice way they check what they just had apart. Guess what they tore the new oring slightly swapping it out. Put on a new o-ring and fixed it. I almost did the repair myself, but I figured it was under warrranty. Bike does not leak now, that has been a couple of years ago now. My point being if you still have warranty, make sure it is worth taking in, and make sure they are pretty positive about the problem and the repair. So even if you do it yourself, you do not want to rip the primary off and reseal it, then have the same problem after 600 plus miles,ha, ha.

Welcome to the forum.
You got a year warranty on a new bike so get it back to the dealer. If it is leaking due to failure to torque the cover properly they can take care of that and if it comes back you will have evidence that you reported the problem before your year was up.

|lunaticrider||It very well could be residual from assembly, did your dealer possibly lube the clutch cable or lever? I would clean it up good and keep an eye on it. In the meantime I would just go over your primary cover bolts to make sure there all tight. Also it could very well be dripped on oil from those "don't give a f**k" wanna be techs at the dealer...|

Hello, and oil leak?
Got a new, leftover 2012 CR back in October. Have been busy reading up and have a bunch of mods planned, starting with all the performance mods (pipes, PCV, timing wheel, air box, cams) later this month. Excited to to see the engine wake up a bit!
I only have 600 miles on the bike. Got the oil changed at 500 miles. Just ran into a guy in a parking lot who was admiring my ride. Then he pointed out that the primary looks like it might be leaking oil...
There is a faint line of discoloration along the seam of the primary cover. It isn't wet to the touch, though it does feel like there was oil there at some point. I can just barley feel it on my fingers. I would post pics, but I dont think I have permissions yet.
How concerned should I be? Any chance it is residual from final assembly of the bike? I haven't washed the thing yet...
