listen to the 2010 and 2011 bikes side by side. I love my bike, but to be hones the whinning noise of the the primary is getting the best of me......to the point that I 'm thinking of trading for another bike. Im hoping that theres a big difference b/c I really want to stay with the c.c.

I agree with the whirling.
Even the stage 1 or any other exhaust doesn't drown it out.
You can't hear it much when going down the road with the tunes is turned up. You would have thought they would have used beveled gears instead of straight cut.

That was 1 of the biggest complaints with the HD when the 6th speed transmission came out. It is only about 5% as compared to the Victory primary.

I bought the 1st XC sold. Loved it but could not use 6th gear on the hwy the noise was so bad. After riding a 2011 I jumped on one. Not sure which bothered me most; the noise or the lash in the driveline. Only have 1200 miles on the '11 and it's still a little 'clunky' shifting but I'm thinking that will get better with miles. The '10 didn't really seem to smooth out until around 5k miles. Fourth gear seemed to have quietened down a bit by the time the '10 turned 10k but 6th never improved at all. And most of the smaller complaints I had with the '10 are not present in the '11. Cruise control is smoother, the fuel guage is much more accurate, etc, etc.
I'd trade again in a heartbeatthumb up

The slack in the driveline between 'on throttle' and 'off throttle'. At a steady speed roll on & off the throttle quickly and you can feel it. Vic says they reduced it by 66% in the new tranny - seems like they reduced it even more to methumb up

I have been riding everyday since last Friday. riding different bikes each day today it was the XC.
Every time I ride it I like it more and more. Had a VFW meeting and 1 of my buds was giving me a hard time for getting the Victory and another joined. That's okay because they were in their cage and I was on the bike.
Guess who had the most fun. Left a hour earlier so I could ride longer. It was a grand ride, tomorrow will be better. I will be getting up early to finish up some cruise pegs for a member here and then ride the rest of the day.

I guess different people have more or less tolerance to the noise in the 2010 transmission. I have 12k miles on my 2010 XC. The gear noise doesn't bother me at all. The straight cut on the gears that adds to the noise also (from what I have been told by those in the know) makes the transmission stronger and more durable. The 2010 style transmission has been well proven to be trouble free and very dependable. I have no problem finding neutral, it is just an acquired feel for the correct rpm in the engine and transmission. As a Heavy equipment driver for years it is not difficult. Time will tell if the 2011 style transmission is as durable and dependable. :)
