over on vog a guy said at 70 mph he heard a bad sound. 51K on his tour model. You can imagine how many guys said it was cause the oil. Amsoil 20/40. None of the guys though it could of been the bearing cage or a bearing itself. One of them even said he talk to the top 4 tuners and they said Amsoil. I thin he is working for CNN
I'd go on ebay and find a good used low mile engine from a wrecked bike for $1,500-$2,000 and swap out engines then take my time fixing the first one on my work bench. Even if I ended up taking it apart then deciding it wasn't worth fixing; I'd still get the education factor from doing it.
It really sucks this $8 part caused all this trouble though. Had to be heart wrenching when he saw those bearings in there like that. Damn shame. I don't believe it was the oil either; especially Amsoil.

This guy it's tradition to bash fellow forum members ..... Someone blows up a tranny and gets bashed for oil .... Crazy mate, just weird and wrong ....
Those pictures are awful. Is this a bearing failure or did something else failed that took the bearing out? Does that bearing ride in the oil all the time. What a nightmare for the owner. So sad.
I'm guessing the number of trouble free Victory's with well over 100K, 200K or even 300K miles is larger than the total number of bikes that lost the trans circlip or this bearing. Still, it makes me pause a bit knowing the brand is dead and my extended warranty is up in 3 weeks.
I agree with the posts above. Buy a new to you used Victory and part out the entire 'broken' motorcycle to recoup (some of) the cost. That's likely what I'd do anyway.
A deal like this is hard to hear about. But none of us know any of the particulars. Was the oil and filter changed on time? Was a "good oil" used or bargain basement type? Did he run it hard or normal? I have seen more than a couple bearing failures that were just bad luck. Part manufactured with a defect or something. Sucks for the guy either way.
Over on the vog there's a thread about it. He used Amsoil and changed it regularly. There are some who believe Amsoil is so slippery that it causes bearings to slide rather than roll. I find that hard to believe.
I think you're right; just bad luck. A certain number of anything mechanical will fail prematurely due to some weak link. In this engine it was this bearing.
I would chalk it up to bad luck, probably poor handling of the bearing or poor assembly. I haven't seen many pictures or many complaints of this on the internet.
It doesn't take much to ruin a bearing pre install, during install or after install. We tend to take them for granted but they are incredibly fragile if you want them to last in service.
Unwrap it set it on the bench , push it off the bench and let it drop to the concrete floor and it's life is significantly shortened.
At that point you throw it away if you know to.
It doesn't look damaged when you pick it up and in most installations it will run for a while, like this one did. But it's place is in the trash can because it is going to die prematurely. If it is heavily loaded prematurely is not very long.
Accidents like dropping a bearing happen. When they get installed afterwards instead of thrown away you have problems like this. It's just as easy to kill one with a single strike of a hammer. Good training goes a long ways Lack of training or lack of caring causes a lot of machinery to have a very short life.
Offshore we have many problems with bearings ... Salt & concrete & drill mud, it is always something ...
