After I installed the smaller Harley trunk rack, the wife was complaining that there was a lot of buzzing/vibrating sound and it was driving her crazy so .....
Did a bit of investigating and it appears the rubber seal for the trunk is quite "weak" and doesn't provide a very tight seal so I got some truck canopy sealer tape and cut a thin strip appx 3/4 wide long enuf to go all the way around the trunk. Stuck it onto the existing rubber seal and voila` ... no more buzzing/vibrating! The trunk latches have a tad more "pressure" now to snap them closed.
Warning: this tape is extremely sticky so make sure you get it aligned as you're sticking it down coz if you try and pull it off you'll have a real mess.
I'll try and remember to snap a shot or 3 this evening.
Basically tho, once the seal tape is applied, you can hardly see it.
BTW, I "think" it is canopy sealer tape ... I've had this stuff for ages. It's fairly thin and has one side sticky. Maybe a hardware store sells it ???
Where can you get this tape you speak of? My XC sounds like a freakin log wagon. The truck rattles like crazy hitting small bumps, the saddle bags do the same thing. Something on the fariing buzzes like a crazed bumblebee at certain RPM's. I didn't notice it much as I was funning debaffled stock exhaust and frankly the moise drownded all that other stuff out...
To be honest, I can't remember exactly where I got it coz I've had it for quite a while but I believe you can find it at either hardware stores, or automotive stores, or maybe a truck canopy / recreation vehicle place.
It comes in a roll about 2" wide, has a single sticky side (protected with a backing tape), is black rubber, and fairly thin.
I'm just about out of it now and I've slit what's left lengthwise so all I've now got is a length of about 3/4" width.
I'll try and remember to take a pic of it tonight. Was just too busy with other stuff last night.
The rubber tape I used turned out to be too thin and after a while, the lid was vibrating again so, I got some black door edge trim for a car and put it all around the lip of the trunk bottom. This adds a bit more height to the edge. The trunk fits a lot snugger now and not vibrating so we'll see how that lasts over time.
