Couple weeks ago I threatened I would be joining this forum in the near future...yesterday I pulled the trigger on a 2011 Victory Cross Roads!

I love this bike, plenty of power, storage...I constanty forget I have 6 gears instead of 5. But I've noticed something odd...

I have the torque compensator noise...hotter it is the louder it gets. No big, my Vulcan was always pretty noisy. Maybe not THIS noisy, but noisy. Since it seems the noise isn't indicative of impending mechanical failure, we'll see how long I can gut it out.

What I've got, fellas, is a floaty speedo needle! Between about 50 and 70 MPH, the needle will fluctuate as much as 3-4 MPH indicated. The worst area is between 65-70. Doesn't seem to bee a speed sensor issue since I've watched it with the tach up on the display and the cruise control stays steady. when I have it set, the tach does not fluctuate more than 50 rpm, and since that's its smallest increment of measure, I have to assume it's not slippage in the drivetrain either. Logic would lead me to believe it's in the head unit of the gauge.

Anyone else had this issue on their XR/XC, or any other Vic? I've had speedo needles get floaty on me before, but that was in my ol' 78 Chevy pickup. and it was a heap.

I have never had the noise issue or anything wrong with the speedo. Honestly I would be picky with the speedo and make the dealer replace it. I believe others here have had the torque compensator issue and have had it fixed. A quick search should answer that question.

You really didn't say if the bike was bran new or used.
Go back to the dealer and tell him. If he gives you the BS thats the way they are then tell him you'll be happy if replaces the parts.

Speedo

My 2011 XR has the same speedo thing. It's not a bother to me. I also have the torque compensator noise and have had nothing but BS from 3 dealers. I think they say the same BS for any problem that crops up. I think I will try to fix it but I've been waiting because I don't want to give them an excuse to deny any other warranty work. The good news is that my noise isn't as bad as some. Overall the XR is one of the best bikes.:D

@visionjohnny - the bike had 18 miles on it yesterday. It now has 220 :D ...the dealer where I bought the bike (cuz they had a red one in stock) is 2.5 hours away. The nearest dealer is about 2 hours in the other direction. Running back and forth to the dealer to hassle them about anything isn't really an option. The local Kawasaki dealer where I purchased my Vulcan is a Polaris dealer, but I'm sure they're not licensed to certified to handle Victory warranty issues.

I am right in understanding the torque compensator noise is not going to cause a problem, right? That seemed to be how I read it in the other posts. As long as it's just *noise* I can tough it out. Can't hear it when accelerating, only time I notice it is when I pop into neutral and let out the clutch when I'm getting ready to shut the bike down.

Some of the newer engines have this noise and some them are louder than others. If it really bothers you then it would be better to get it fixed. Some forum members say it causes no problem. I hope it won't cause a problem but, maybe its too soon to judge. Logically a noise is made by things knocking. I'm not taking a firm stance on this; I just want to cover all possibilities. Since the noise happens only in neutral lets hope it won't be a problem. If it did cause a problem, it would be fixable. I hope someone will post the repair on youtube. Search the forum for "shifting clunky on my 2011 Jackpot" for some input.

My answer to you is not to worry much about it. Your warranty is your safety net.:)

Noise? What noise?

Put in those ear plugs and wear that full face helmet. It cuts out a lot of the engine/transmission noises. I also have a 2011 XR and now it has a little over 3K on it. So far so good. I am not impressed with the black paint I got on my bike. This weekend hopefully I will get to install the tankslapper paint protector kit. Be careful with the paint.
