I had an interesting glitch last weekend and I've been meaning to ask some opinions.

We were on our trip up and over the Beartooth Pass and stopped at Top of the World (elevation 8k-9k). When we pulled into the parking lot I kicked down into neutral and noticed that my idle didn't drop below 1,600 rpm. I let her sit for a few seconds and it stayed right there nice and steady like it thought it was supposed to idle that high. I rolled off the throttle just to make sure nothing was stuck and it never budged. A light rev of the engine and it came right back to 1,600 rpm idle, nice and smooth but too high. I shut down and pulled the cheese wedge to make sure that I hadn't screwed up something when I installed the quarter turn throttle the week before and found nothing. The throttle arm was seated firmly on the idle stop right where it should be.

We stayed at Top of the World for about 15 minutes and when I re-lit the bike she idled nice and easy down where it's supposed to (I haven't a clue what the actual normal idle speed is, never looked). It hasn't done it since and I have no idea what caused it. The outside air temp was in the 60's and we were on top so we hadn't been climbing, engine temp was normal.

I haven't messed with this thing, it's stock except for a dealer installed Stage 1 and Tri-Ovals, O2 sensors are plugged in. I'm thinking that it probably has something to do with the high altitude but we were even higher than that and it never happened again. BTW we have a gas station here in Cody that sells non-ethonal premium and a lot of it so I doubt it was the fuel.

My bike has done this too on a couple of occasions , Mainly when it had low miles on it , say under 1500 or so . When I shut it off and started it back up all was better . If I were you I would check my battery terminals , make sure they are good and tight !

I don't have the mods you've got, but I was in the same locale, just on the south side of Yellowstone at the Continental Divide there. 8300 feet I think (got a picture with the sign somewhere). Had no such issue. Another one of the newer guys that recently bought a XR was having some idle issues also. Hmm.

As long as the thing will go back to normal idle after I shut it down I don't think it's too big of a deal. I'm leaving for southern Colorado on Thursday and if I can find a Victory dealership somewhere between here and there I'll probably stop in and ask a tech if they have any ideas.
