Hi Everyone...been a lifetime rider and amateur road racer for many years. Came across a find I couldn't pass up...V92C w/ 894 original miles for only $1,700!!! Bike sat outside under a cover for several years (in a tough part of SE Washington DC) with just a few rides since 2012. Motor, engine, electrics & tins are perfect but needs some cosmetic TLC, especially on the chrome bits and some work on fixing the frozen up front suspension. Going through the process of putting her back to full time duty since I'm an Army Officer at the Pentagon and will be riding this 50+ miles a day once this 'effing weather breaks! Look forward to hearing your advice on things I have questions on.

Ya did good there - that is a sweet find. Congrats.

I recently bought a V92 as well.....road it a whole 8 miles before the weather took the wheels out from under me.

Good find, if it's true. 2000 and some 2001 Vics had an issue with the speedo cluster. Unless you kept a tender on it when not riding, the little battery for the clock would die and then the big battery would die. When this happened, the odometer would reset to zero. Many 00 and 01 Vics out there showing VERY low miles due to this. It would just happen or someone wanted to sell, so they let batteries die (or disconnect the battery until the little one in the speedo housing died) and you have a bike with 0 miles. Victory did not do a recall on the speedo cluster, but did change it and many got free upgrades to it courtesy of Victory. One has amber turn signal indicators and the other has green on the face of the cluster. I don't remember which is which. Maybe some of the learned members here with better memories than mine can assist.

The other thing you need to check for is the transmission. On a 2001, the tranny is generally good, but some of them had a soft or brittle third gear. Victory was forced to do a recall by the NHSTA and came up with a "CUSH" drive to replace the back pulley. Bad fix in my opinion, but it did seem to work. If your bike doesn't need this, the tranny will be clunky but fairly bulletproof. A dealer can look at the markings on the end of your shaft where you front pulley bolts and tell you if tranny is good, or you need the cush drive. The cush drive should be free of parts or labor since it is an actual recall. This applies if you are the original owner or not. Recalls are attached to the VIN#, not the owner.

Make sure the kickstand spring recall is done with the new bracket.

You may or may not have the alternator upgrade done, being an 01. If not, it's good to have, but if you're not running a lot of lights and other goodies, not a "have to" thing.

They really are great old bikes. Upgrade the chip to a Stage I. PMRT used to program them. I had the WV chip and it was awesome! You've got a lot to learn about these older Vics, but you'll have a great time doing it...... CONGRATS !!!

The Odometer reset issue was on the early '99 models. Never heard of the same issue with any model year after that.

I owned both a '00 and an '01, 45K miles combined, never a problem.

Had a 2000 with the old odometer. Had a 2001 with upgraded odometer (didn't come that way...)

A 1999 Victory ?????? Didn't remember these...... That's how bad my old memory is......

Well...it's got the right miles on the title...so I hope that this was not an issue...the turn signals on the speedo cluster are green.

Also, I checked the VIN and the only thing not done is the cush drive, so I'll make sure the dealer does that when I get it inspected...hopefully the dealer will honor the recall since I plan on having them do some other work...

I ran the VIN on mine and need the kick stand and the cush. I called the dealer and he told me to drop it off and they would do the changes needed courtesy of Victiry.

speedo resets

+Unfortunately, the speedometer issue never became an official government-mandated recall. As a voluntary swap-out program, Victory intimated that they'd first replace all of the 1999 speedometers, then progress into the 2000s.

Both of my 1999 speedometers were swapped out, one after zeroing itself. You couldn't recover the mileage in the meter though, and were required to document those miles on the paperwork when obtaining the replacement.

Speedo issue ran all the way into early 01. A unit inquiry will show if the speedo was replaced. Cush drive has expired, and unless a special exemption is allowed through an "Ask Polaris " case. You are not getting it inspected, or installed for free

Sorry took so long to get back to everyone...was transferred and had a baby !

They didn't do the cush drive...said they inspected it and the VIN number was a very late one that didn't have an issue...whatever? I've got ~5K trouble free miles on it so I figure if it's a problem I'll wait for a Freedom engine and replace it...

Lookin good. Keep an eye on eBay, I think pinwall cycle may have a couple too. Be careful though, if it was wrecked in the front the head may be cracked. About $900 for a new one not including labor, unless you do it yourself

FYI green signals in the speedo means it was updated. Not original miles. The vin after June had no trans issues.
