22k, Fresh dyno tune 80 rwhp 103 rwtq, Power Commander 5, K&N, Pipe. Unfortunately even after the tune it is running really rich and I nor my shop can figure it out. The switch you use to open the throttle body, if I move it fully closed the bike stalls. I have to open it some to get it to idle roughly around 1000 rpm. Any thoughts?

When is the last time you clea ned your throttle bodies?
I ran Redline through it this summer which was recommended but professionally I haven't. A former Victory service advisor said to use the throttle body screw on the side to open it until it idles where I want it to, which I've done with that switch on the clutch side. Do you think that's what may be causing it to run rich? Thanks for the response. I checked the throttle body boot also, no cracks.

My shop worked on getting rid of the pops, but he said if he leaned it out more than it is now it would go back to the way it was running before I had it dyno tuned.

So one member had similar issues and the other had no issues. I think cleaning the throttle bodies this spring will be the first thing I try. Thanks for the responses.

unleaded gas will leave a black coating in the exhaust pipes. You can’t tell how rich a bike or a car is running by observing the color of the exhaust pipes any more. I am assuming that is what you are basing your rich running on?

So how many Meg’s are you getting. I would run a tank of gas through it and go for a ride, not babying it, but not hotrodding it either, just ride normally. I would think you should be getting somewhere in the range of 43-45. Mpg or so. That is probably more of an indication of running rich or lean.

I don’t understand why people are so concerned about popping in the exhaust on deceleration. I’ve seen many posets about This. When I installed a PC v I got a bit of popping in the exhaust on deceleration but it’s no big deal to me. Most carburetted bikes would not only pop but actually backfire loudly on decel. Fuel injection is a better method of handling fuel, but it’s still not perfect.

I would be very careful about it running too lean. In fact, I think I’d go with the numbers your tuner came up with for optimum. The fuel air ratio numbers from the dyno should be the optimum. If it were my bike, I would go back and tune it, and then get several runs on a tankfuel each, and calculate your MPG. If it’s within a reasonable range, I wouldn’t worry. A lean mixture will make your bike run hotter, impact performance, and so forth.

Just my suggestions. I have never dynoed my bike, as I haven’t found anyone around my area who could do it. I just use a map that was averaged for my bikes configuration. It seems to be ok.

I hope this helps.
Cheers
After I had it dyno tuned of course my mpg went down. Before the tune was mid to high 30s now mid 20s to low 30s around 70mph. The lower pipe usually has dark black stuff. Believe it has a Freedom Exhaust, also K&N and Power Commander 5 Stage 1. I have alot of older bikers after being behind me tell me how rich it smells. I even installed new plugs. I figure come spring I'll get the TBs cleaned, the rubber intake piece has no cracks. After the tune 80 whp and 103 whtq. [email protected] 1/4 mile, also. Runs like an absolute champion. I just can't get it to idle when I close the cold start lever it dies. This happened after the tune was fine before.

I'll throw in on this discussion. I have an 07 Hammer with a 2into1 exhaust, K&N air filter and Stage 1 map and it runs fine but it is rich, with black soot on the inside of the silencer and the plugs are dry medium to dark brown. Note that I live in a small town with short hops so my situation is pretty unique. In my opinion, if you want to make power on a mostly stock bike, consider a 2 into 1 exhaust. I am of the opinion rich is way better than lean, but I am old 2smoke guy...
Thanks for the response. I read this at Dennis Kirk.

Trying to make power is expensive and best left to those with deep knowledge and experience - throwing money and parts at things almost never achieves good results. A vic is a great bike but quick and fast it isn't. Like others have said - if it isn't running well, I recommend you get it back to stock and then sort it out. Once sorted decide if you really need/want to chase more power or just enjoy a very well designed bike that is a joy to ride. You might be surprised how much giggle factor is in a $20 1/4 turn throttle ring :) Good luck and please keep us posted.
I'm not disappointed how fast mine is. 1st time at the track after dyno tuning equaled similar numbers to a stock 106ci. I ran [email protected]
