Hey fellas. How can I make an airtight seal for my saddlebags? I have a custom music install and the factory seals are not good enough to get the maximum sound from the 6X9's in the bags. I am trying to figure out what I can use or do.

From my reading of this and the V dot net for 2+ years now:

Some people have put a dowel in the rubber loop by the latch, and said that helps somewhat. Some people assert that they have adjusted the hinge and latch slightly; me, I loosened both, and found there was meaningless, negligible, adjustment.

And some people have added their own weather stripping on top of the factory stuff. I haven't done that, but I think that's your best bet. Of course, if you do that you'll probably need to make doubly sure that when you close the lids, they're really latched/clicked/closed.

(I just learned to live with the dust -- no rain in there yet, in my travels -- but I don't have your requirements.)

Thx WSPOLLACK. I am going to just add some thick aftermarket stripping. That seems like my best option for now.

Weather strip. Worked like a charm. Doesn't need to be to wide or dense. I put it on the underside of the lid, seals good and not very noticeable. Think I used 1/2" wide open foam with sticky backing. Similar material you stick around window air conditioners.

Thx MTV. I was looking for something that could make the lid more sturdy against the bag to take away some of the rattle from that week spot. I have dynamat(sp?) on the bags but the seal is where I need to find a better way to secure the air for better sound

If your bag rattles alot then you need to pay attention to your latch mechanism. My right bag has been trouble since day one and it was so loose that it wore a notch on the hing mechanism that locks onto the U-bolt. I put a pencil in the rubber cushion near the latch and halve also put weather stripping on the underside of the bag and it has helped out alot. I love the size of the bags on the X bikes but they are not designed that well.
