Hello,

My names Richard. I'm from Honolulu, Hawaii and wanted to introduce myself. I am new to the cruiser scene. I originally came from a 87 ninja 600 and took a hiatus followed by a 2003 Hayabusa.

I've been on the bus and for about 5 years followed by another hiatus. I have a passion for motorcycles and have a good background in electrical engineering. I am looking to reenter the scene again but wanted something more laid back.

II started out my quest to find the perfect bike. Started off at looking at cruisers. A friend of mine told me to check out the vtx. He swore by it as the best bike ever. LOL. Long story short my quest for a vtx led me to researching bikes of all types. I ended up here. I've narrowed it down to a 05 vtx, a 05 Roadstar but my hearts leaning towards a victory Kingpin. I wanted to see if I could pick your brain about a bike I'm considering.

The bike I'm interested in is http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/mcy/3634623651.html

It's a sweet looking bike but from my research I was wondering what you guys think. Price seems high? I don't know if it's just me not understanding the value of this bike or the seller trying to milk every dollar. (in Hawaii it's common to see way overpriced bikes due to lack of choices)

My goal is to avoid getting reamed. Money isn't a big issue. Just the ethic is what concerns me.

Can you guys chime in and let me know what you all think of this bike? The owner emailed me saying there's no problems and his reasons for selling is he lost his passion to ride. He says that it's a nice alternative to the highly flooded HD market and it turns heads and gets compliments. I'm about 2 days away from pulling the trigger but I'm a fish out of water when it comes to this decision. My girlfriend says I'm ogling over every bike I see and she wants me to hurry up and buy one so she can ride with me.

So you think I should do it? Does this have stink all over it? Negotiate the price? I would love to hear your opinions because I know nothing about cruisers and can't make that choice without a better understanding.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my introduction. Look forward to hearing from you all.

wellcome, i think you would be happy with the bike if a cruiser is what you want. thats about in line with the asking price in tn. surely you can get him down a little lower though. just wondering though, where are you going to cruise, i visited there and best i remember it takes like 45 minutes to circle the whole island.

I was actually going to purchase the bike to be my daily driver to and from work. The commute time would be about 30 minutes each way :) lots of time for me to enjoy the open road. Not to mention the year round riding season :D

Nice looking bike... The optional trunk might come in handy too. Low miles for a Vic!

Lucky you to get to live and ride in sunshine everyday!

Hey Brah! Don't pass on this bike, you'll hate yourself for it. For starters, its unique - there are many VTXs out there and they don't garner the attention that KP will. Even the H-D guys are gonna drool over it. That thing will handle any twisty you can throw it into. Go try it out on The H3 or Mount Tantalus and try not to grin. If you liked the Bus, you're going to love that Vic.
Cancer and age forced me into a cruiser as I needed a lower seat height and CG in order to continue riding. Its like Victory interviewed guys like me and said, OK Mr. Cruiser Hater, what will it take to get you into one of ours and they did it in spades. I won't go back to what I had been riding for decades.
Now go and see if he'll let you try it out and come back here and try to tell us you didn't like it. :)

Thanks I took a look at the bike and well I'm the proud new owner of a 2007 victory kingpin!! cheers

LOL getting her home was quite a event. I havn't been on my busa in 3 years. Sitting on this bike felt so foreign to me.

I think I almost threw out my back when I went over a dip and rolled the throttle accidentally. However after about one hour of riding it all started to come back to me. So far it's been great! My only concern (though small) is trying to understand the limits of how hard I can push a turn. I'm use to scraping knees on my busa (Never could believe I could ride a turn on one inch of corner thread) but on this bike I'm so laid back most of my turns are slow hehe.

Well hope to get some sunday riding in order soon. This past one was raining go figure.

My first ride home I got snapped up by guy sitting in his truck taking pics of my ride.

My second day I got passed by a 80 year old in a station wagon. wac that's a different story..... I'll just play it off as I wasn't racing. Well time to do some errands but i'll be sure to check back often.

Have a great week everyone!
Aloha,
-Rich

Nice looking bike, doesn't sound like a bad deal, especially with a few upgrades. 10K miles is nothing... Enjoy the new ride! cheers

Rich,
You are going to get so used to that KP's ergos and handling that you won't want to go back to even a standard. I've been riding over 60 years and hated everything about cruisers, but cancer and age had me needing a lower seat and CofG if I was to continue riding. I've never ridden a KP, but my XR carves with the best of them. Just have good tires, the correct air pressure and the suspension dialed in. Don't even worry about the revs - keep 'em up. Rain? Hey, you get warm rain. I rode in Oregon drizzle today and it weren't warm. Can't wait to get back there, we're way too many malasadas low and are in desperate need of a Shiro's Saimin. Hell, I even miss the Kau Kau Korner! Where on the island do you live?
Aloha no
