My used 2010 CC came with the Vic Tall Windshield installed on it and it was held on by just the 4 mounting screws, no washers or anything else. I think it had the beginnnings of hairline cracks around at least one of the mounting holes when I bought it, but within a few months there were noticeable cracks around 2 or more of the holes. Rode with that windshield for nearly a year while more cracks appeared and grew longer.

Replaced that shield with a 7jurock flip shield last fall. Really like this shield and installed it with rubber washers between the shield and the metal mount points and was careful not to overtighten the screws. Just this past weekend I noticed good size crack coming from the top right mounting hole.

What do I need to do to keep my windshields from cracking? Does someone sell mounting hardware that has proper washers or gaskets or whatever it takes to prevent these cracks?

Thanks,
Randy

maybe your should look at the mounting arms are that tight. They might be causing the vibration that causing the cracks.
Maybe rubber washers on both sides on the wind sheild.
Check the bolts maybe there a mm to big for the holes in the windshield and are causing binding.
When I put my windshield on I just start the bolts then push the shield from the back side out and screw the bolt in a Little more so there is no binding between windshield and bolt.

I had a flip shield installed when I bought my 11 XC. Dealer supplied the shield and I don't know what kind it is. I think it's from Victory. Anyway, last June I developed a crack by the lower left bolt. Took the bike to the dealer and he said he would replace it. In December I called for about the 5th time and the dealer said to come over and he would have the shield. I got there, they changed the shield and when I looked at it I said this is not the same shield. The new one was a Klockwerks. I took it for a test ride and it almost made me dizzy. The shield distorted my vision at the bend in the shield. Went back to the dealer and told him this would not work. He put my original shield on and told me he would call me when he got the right shield. HAVE NOT heard a word from him since. And on top of that the mechanic scratched my fairing and my tank. I absolutely will not deal with this dealer again. In fact, my 11 Victory XC is up for sale. The next closest dealer is in Jackson Ms. and I've already had bad dealings with him. Present dealer is in Loxley Alabama.

Was at the dealer the other day and discovered the mounting screws for a Vic tall windshield are very different from the screws used to mount the shorter shields. The Vic tall has these support bars that run up the outside of the shield along the line of the mounting holes and the screws are simple screws threaded up to the head.

I ordered a set of mounting screws that have a shoulder at the top so are only threaded about halfway. The part of the screw that sits inside the mounting holes of the shield are therefore smooth. Also ordered a set of rubber washers to go between the shield and the screw heads. All this at the ridiculous price of $25, for 4 small screws and 4 rubber washers!

Anyway, picked them up yesterday and installed last night and I'm hoping they will do a better job of keeping the sheild from cracking at the mounting holes, but only time will tell. If they do their job, then I guess it will have been worth the price.

Guess I should have looked into this much sooner. Oh well, live and learn. I'll have the right screws when I order the next shield, which I intended to get one an inch shorter later this year.

Cheers,
Randy
