Hi all - just bought a 2006 Kingpin after 37 years riding street bikes. Thought I'd try and relax a bit more and get away from speed/angles of lean etc. Only done 700 miles or so thus far but would like your thoughts on a couple of areas I would like to improve. Firstly, is it worth trying to add another disc? I've not ridden a Hammer but is the difference very big? I guess if I do add another I will have to find a wrecked Hammer otherwise the cost will be too high.

The other niggle is the front forks which work fine with big bumps but not smaller ones/road imperfections which they ride over. Are there more progressive springs I can buy?

The only difference between the Hammer front end and the kingpin's is the other brake. The Hammer handles well but it takes alittle time to get use to the 250. I believe scott at Conquest Customs sell a spring kit for the front end. I would Highly recommend the Penske shock Makes a world of difference in Handling http://www.conquestcustoms.com/suspension.aspx

I bet the Penske shock combined with the Ricor Intiminators would be a hot set up for those you want the best suspension available.

Is the Kingpin/Hammer front end a 43 mm? I know the top isn't but what about the bottom?

I haven't done it but since the Hammer and KP have the same front end I would imagine its an easy swap. I believe aside from adding the front rotor and accessories you need a Hammer master cylinder.

I think KevinX has done this swap.

First off I need to correct an earlier assumtion. The 04-08 Kingpin legs have different springs, and cartridges then the 05-08 Hammer.

In 09 the guts of the two bikes were changed to a 2 stage system with a small bump spring, and a longer ride spring. The 09 and up Hammer/KP share the same guts.

All that said the single disk is perfectly good on a KP untill you get into extended twistie riding, and the dual set up has less fade

Thanks all - I am starting to get used to the single disc now - it's a matter of chilling out which is precisely what I bought the bike for. As to the forks - they are getting worse! The roads around here (Somerset) are twisty and very poorly maintained and so I'm really getting jarred around which is annoying if nothing else. I'll check out Conquest for a spring kit...
