Man, I am just friken perplexed at how to successfully tighten the drive belt on my 2011 Vision. Have the manual; followed the steps and I still cannot get the belt to track on the inside of the rear wheel pulley while the wheel is in forward motion. It moves to the outside of the rear pulley when the wheel is moving in reverse; but then it stays there when you rotate the wheel forward.

I also adjusted the belt tension to 1.26" which is 32mm, in accordance with all of the steps in the manual. Took it for a spin to warm it and the belt up, and just checked the tension again with the 10lb belt gauge. There's only 1/2' of play in the belt....! WTF? Do they shrink THAT much when the get warmed up? From 1.26" to .5" ???

I wish the Vision had a shaft drive, or at least a chain drive. I'm a lot more familiar with them than this damned belt that doesn't want to play nice. I am really concerned with the tightness of the belt. Should I go beyond 1.26" free play while cold?

The belt will tighten up alot as it warms up, nothing wrong. The belt will also try to ride on the outside, not the inside. If it rides on the inside of the pulley toward the wheel then you rear wheel is out of alignment. Sounds like you have it adjusted right on the money. cheers

I'm a little confused about the proper belt tracking IAW the manual though. In page 2.21 of the service manual it states that proper belt tracking is achieved once it tracks on the inside of the rear flange sprocket; during forward wheel rotation. Mine tracks to the outside of the rear wheel sprocket flange....


???

I'm not sure on the vision, but all the bikes I've adjusted and the ones at a couple of vic dealers belt was towards the outside.

Shop manual for the Kingpin also states belt should track to the inside of the pulley with forward rotation, and outside when spun in reverse.

Yea, I got to work on it again tonight when I get home. I rode in to work today (50 miles) and the belt really didn't have much slack. I'm going to let it cool when I get home, and adjust for a full 2" cold.

I have always been under the impression you should have "drivers weight" on the bike the belt must be cold and never turn the wheel in reverse. All way's turn forward.
The true important thing is you want the belt to go in a straight line to get hundred thousand miles out of it and to steer straight.
If your doing 60 or 70 and take your hands of the bars it should go pretty much in a straight line for a ways before drifting.
If we could only do away with the bags to see this.
I loosen the adjuster bolts push wheel all the way forward and then pull the wheel back by hand. Once the wheel is all the way back I push up on the belt to what feels like a 1/2". Now I turn the adjuster nuts till they just touch swing arm. Now just maybe a 1/4" turn on the right bolt and lock it down.
My bike is putt away so I can't look but I think the inside flange on the pulley has a "c" shape not flat on the inside of the flange thats why we get a chirp.
