Just curious if anyone has any particular battery recommendations. I've always used Roadrunner from Mills Fleet Farm and have always had great luck with them. Bought one for my XR last night and it was near identical. Same dimensions, just a slightly different top. Unfortunately, it's ever so slightly too big. It "fits", but it's pressing against the front cover.

My experience is as follows:

Stock is a Yuasa YTX20HL-BS on my bike and weighs 16 lbs. Has 310 CCA. Some older bikes have the YTX20L-BS which has 270 CCA and weighs 14 lbs.

I bought a WPS Featherweight Lithium battery Part# 490-2520 which is the replacement for both OEM batteries. Costs $229.95 from BTO Sports where I get some of my MX items from.

Super awesome. Has a superior 420 CCA. Only weighs 3.7 Lbs and is Waterproof. Can be charged with any charger unlike other more expensive lightweight high CCA batteries (Shorai) that require a battery tender or Shorai's specific charger. Has a built in LED test gauge not that I have ever needed it. Fast recharge, can be brought up to a 90% charge within 6 minutes not that I have ever needed it. I have left in in the bike for 6 months during winter and she fired up no problems where my Yuasa was dead after about 5 weeks. Normally it is not a big deal as I would just recharge it but I figured why the heck not and I can cut 12lbs off the weight.

A weight savings of 12 lbs. Might have added 1HP to my bike ahah.

Couple things to clarify from this post.

1st, the Shorai for the victory is more expensive (329.95 for that particular model) so on that point you are correct.

2) ALL lithium batteries SHOULD be charged with a balance charger periodically. They are built differently from lead acid and not balance charging from time to time can cause irreparable damage to one or more cells. It is possible that the WPS has internal balance circuitry (not uncommon really) that negates the need for a specific balance charger but it's still being balanced

3) Shorai, and most other brands do not NEED a specific charger. They can be charged with any 12v charger so long as the meet the criteria listed on the label of that WPS part (14.9v or under, NO desulfate mode, must have an automatic shutoff). Again, a balance charger is a good idea, but it's not required.

4)12 lbs of weight savings is the equivalent of adding 1.714 horsepower cheers

I just bought a road runner for mine and it fits perfect. Wounder if you picked the wrong one.
I asked the sales guy for help and the one I picked out was wrong

I think battery's are like playing poker you just never know if its a winner or not

Thanks. I bought this one over the Shorai due to pricing and requiring a specific charger in some cases. The weight savings was huge for me. So far, so good. Fingers crossed that this battery serves me for years to come.

For greater certainty:

WPS Part# 490-2520 Dimensions. L 6-7/8" x W 3-7/16" x H 5-1/8" Polarity: +Right. It fits perfect into my battery box on my 13' Hammer 8 Ball. No spacers or shims required. Drop in and go.

Hmmmmmm...Well, it was the only one they had listed for EVERY Victory on the list. Sooooooo....???

The correct battery for any XC/XR or Vision is the Interstate (made in America) p/n FAYTX20HL with no guessing or poker playing involved...:D

I kept it simple and carried my old battery into the dealer and walked out with a Yuasa replacement. About $125 with tax. What was really nice is that it was already charged and ready to go. (I'm used to adding acid and then charging)

I've bought two from a company called BatteriesPlus or Batteries & Bulbs since they changed their name. They have lots of locations around the country and the batterys are priced right.

Most of the guys I ride with here in HOT AZ say no matter what they do they only seems to get 2 years, whether they trickle charge or not and it doesn't make any difference where they bought them.

I think VJ's reference to buying batteries being like playing poker meant it doesn't really matter whose name is on the box, your odds of getting a bunk battery are about the same.

Were it me, I'd get an Everstart from Walmart cuz they have an awesome price and I've had very good luck with their automotive batteries over the years. The Everstart equivalent of the OE battery is a maintenance-free AGM. Gotta be filled an charged, so if you wanna drop it in and ride, it's not going to be the choice for you.

Warranty is only 90 days tho, and you need to keep your sales receipt.

I will take my 1.714 HP gain, 12 lbs weight savings and so far very reliable battery. Love the test light on mine. I check it every few weeks. Always full.
