Something to think about...
If Indian is successful, Victory can stop chasing the MoCo's tail with their recent apehangers/spokes/whitewalls trend and go back to innovating not imitating... while Indian will have the name recognition to appeal to the nostalgia crowd. Having Indian could possibly bring big changes at Victory, not their demise. Depends on how Polaris plays their cards.

Thoughts?

Agree! How did you say it? Purpose built machines??? It is a concept they can persue using already proven technology.

I've read they have that in mind, but they only got so many engunears and they are all busy developing suspensions to harness massive steel Injun fenders and pushrods to harness massive valves.

I hate to be pessimistic, but if I had to make a guess, I'd say we'll see some bold new colors as they whittle down the model line to a few sellers like the XCT and Hammer.

A recent interview in a bike mag, with the Polaris VP of motorcycles, quotes him saying there are big changes ahead for Victory and they are overdue for a new powertrain.

Powertrain is fine. If they just port the Indian's modern tranny over, it'd be delightful. The Indian is the one for the die hards. I say give them the clacky Vic box so their customers don't feel they've been cheated on heritage.

None of us has a crystal ball, Speeddemon. We just have to sit back and wait and see. Ma Vic is very close to the vest with what's going on and then pops up with a big reveal. What we think they should do falls on deaf ears, for the most part. Patience Grasshopper.

If I want a chopper I know where to get one. If I want an old school 'new antique' I know where to get one. If I want a crotch rocket I know where to get one. How about something I can ONLY get at a Victory dealership?

Give us the functionality/utility/versatility of the FJR 1300 in a bike with the comfort/style/V-twin rumble/torque of a cruiser. How about a cafe' bagger? How about a standard cruiser? No one has ever done those.

How many current Vic owners are going to get an Indian as an "instead of" choice to Victory. 1%? Even that seems high.

The base is secure. Is the base enough? I guess you'll have to ask a member of the BOD that is part of the steering committee.

Big companies with quantified track records don't typically hang their hats on "change". They hang it on incremental tweaks to the product and they watch how little pushes affect the bottom line.

That ain't to say that nothing new will come out of Spirit Lake but if the devil we don't know comes along it will be right alongside the devil we do know.

If I'm R&D at Vic and am in a engine development program. I'm thinking I'm all up in cutting edge and big change is afoot. That, no doubt was the thinking of the R&D team that fielded the Twinkie at the MoCo, the same Twinkie that is considered an antiquated continuation of a 70 year old engine design that is not the best example of the manufacturers efforts.

That whole chopper thing is soooo 10 years ago. What's big now is baggers. Victory needs to stop following trends and START the next big thing...
Yep! I agree.

PERSONALLY-------what I would like to se is something that would make the bikes a lot more "ride-able" and "style-ish" at the same time. The same "flowing graceful" lines of the Kingpin, Crossroads, Vegas are something special. Without a windshield or fairing, the riding position has the hans out and the body upright making the rider in effect, a sail. The bigger the rider, the bigger the sail. But why does everybody think that for a fairing to be effective it has to be a large bulky BATWING. I remember the bikes I had from the 70's had a lot of the same problem. I would buy these cheap $10-15 quarter fairings from JC Whitney and they worked fantastic. And they were no more than inches around the headlight. You got the right idea with the FJR front end for aerodynamics. My buddy has a Kawa Verses with a frame mounted windscreen no more than 10" wide and it is better wind protection than the clear billboard on my XR. So why not make a small (operative word here is small--not like a Road Glide or Vision) frame mounted EFFECTIVE fairing/windshield with a built in lighting system that does not hurt the handling of the bike---does not look like a copy of the Harley (see Chieftain, CrossCountry)---so that it cuts the air instead of plowing the air at the expense of handling. IOW--dress up the front end of the bike, make it a bagger like the X bikes. I really like the concept of the Switch Back---but the functionally could be improved.

Honda tried that. They left the VTX models for the Fury, Stateline, and I forget the others name.

Don't see many on the Hiway.
Honda had to leave the VTX line, HD lawsuite of the sound of the VTX1800.
