Try going though a June bug swarm, I live right on lake erie, once they start to hatch we start turning out lights at night, like street lamps and what not, they get so bad that they short out the bulbs and when they die, they pile up by the thousands, not a good smell.

I took a trip to Maine once on a Triumph Speed Triple. At one point I was riding away from the coast and after dark... my helmet and jacket looked similar. It almost does feel like rain when so many bugs are out. Took a good amount of time to clean that all off once at the hotel. Its really hard to get them out of perforated leather (jacket).

Plecia nearctica...

... but down south here, we call 'em lovebugs. For a couple weeks in the spring and fall they make driving a nightmare and riding dangerous. And the further south you go, the worse they get.
