Is there a lighter that will just plug in to the A/C plug in the fairing?
That's an interesting question...

I couldn't find any specific prohibition in the shop manual against plugging in an actual cigarette lighter but, then again, I couldn't find any mention at all of the socket. There are a couple of problems:

- Most of these "cigarette" style sockets these days are meant only for plugging in power-source cables, not real lighters. I think some/many/most(?) may not be able to handle the heat. For instance, one of the reviewers of this one on
points out that it can't handle an actual lighter.

- I did some searching, and it seems that actual lighter/socket pairs -- at least some of them -- are fused at 10 amps. That would work with the stock wiring and fuse, but if a real lighter took more than that, this would be a problem.

- Some of these socket/lighter combos claim to be waterproof. However, I believe that's only with the lighter out and the cover closed. If you left the lighter in place during a ride in the rain, I'm not sure of the "waterproofness." This could lead to a rusty socket.

- Maybe someone here knows whether the stock dash outlet can't deal with a real lighter, e.g., maybe I missed it somewhere in the shop or owner's manual. If that's the case, you might have to replace the existing socket with a socket/lighter combo. Take a look, for instance, at http://dx.com/p/waterproof-fused-12v-car-cigarette-lighter-socket-charger-outlet-for-car-motorcycle-black-163376 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-Outlet-Car-Motorcycle-12-Volt-Cigarette-Lighter-Power-Socket-Weatherproof-/120932479070 . You'd have to change the connectors on the ends of the stock wiring, and of course take the dash off. That's not too bad an undertaking -- I did it once, to put a switch in for some added lights.

- Unless you're going to light a stogie/cigarette while actually moving, you're path of least resistance might be to just buy a new Zippo.

What do you do with the butts?
Well, the poster never actually said anything about cigarettes. If, for example, we're talking about lighting joints, you can always just eat the roach. Or so I've read...

Of course... how silly of me... or his crack pipe. I guess you'd need a flame for that, SB? Flame right?

I don't smoke cigarettes, joints, or a crack pipe. I occasionally enjoy a cigar on long rides and when finished with the cigar I put it out and toss in the trash can at the gas station.
