I was getting fuel in Conway NH this morning , and a fella on a HD came over to me and said , " is that a Victory ?" I said yes it is . He says "looks like its right out of a Mel Gibson movie" ... "Sharp lookin though"... Mel Gibson ? WTF does that mean ? He just turned and went back to his bike .... I didn't respond , I think I just scoffed . Was that a compliment , or a snide remark ?:crzy: This is not a shot at HD riders , but that's what he was riding ...

Jealousy man!! I kept getting my balls busted for wearing my victory gear while in Laconia cause I didn't look like the rest of the guys there.. I was talking to a former Harley dealership owner who is one of my customers at work and he says he's beyond happy leaving the hd family, there was no help or support

He is just used to looking at a 100+ year old style. Anything resembling a newer style will look odd to a lot of HD riding folks. Basically they are set in their ways and have no interest in adopting a newer style that doesn't have an HD emblem on it.

Man, HD riders...

I ride my bikes and every time I pass by one of those 'Plywood Palace' bars, its lined from left to right with road glides and street glides...and 90% of them are black...how the hell do they know which one is theirs?

I like HD's because I like motorcycles, but I will not own one that can get lost in the parking lot of a nursing home.

I rode my Stratoliner down to Myrtle Beach last week. I was at the Waca Bar and Grill on the Waccama River in Murrils Inlet...I went to leave and a couple in their late 40's left at the same time. I noticed them eyeballing my bike the entire time I sat there.

I got on my bike and here they come. "OMG this is the most beautiful bike I have ever seen, I know its a Harley but what kind is it?"

My reply "I wont own a Harley, motors are too weak, cost too much, old technology and they can get lost in a nursing home parking lot" (I coined that one so I use it a lot)

"well, what kind of bike is it"? he asked as he looked real confused.

"Its a Star Stratoliner by Yamaha...."

All of a sudden, after telling me its the most beautiful bike they have seen, they have no interest and almost look mad as if I tricked them....HA...go away, I have no Kool-aid for you.

I LOVE IT!! I was at a small well known biker joint in conneticitt and was sitting next to a table of Harley biker wanna-B's. Two cross country's pulled out and one of them say's "hey, their goes one of those George Jetson bikes". My wife looks at me as a Harley goes by and says "Hey , there goes one of those Fred Flintstone bikes".... Luckily they laughed and we ended up having a great conversation about victory.. They were very interested and impressed with my bike, but being part of that HD fraturnity over rides a quality bike... Soon they all headed off on their black Glide something's making lots of noise and hardly moving...

Not trying to "one-up" ya but. Had a similar incident , riding @ that time a Kaw/Nomad. These folks took it to be an HD.....when they finally realized it was not,...they quit talking to me....:crzy:

The gal who came back with the Fred Flintstone line gets it.

Harley peeps are... peeps.

Most times somebody throws a zinger and waits for the comeback. If it's a good one props on you. If you get all twisted up in it then they win by default, de fault of your lack of style points.

Don't sweat the petty things. Pet the sweaty things.

My wife and I stopped for some wings last week at this little place on Candlewood Lake in CT, when we were leaving the manger followed us out and said; "I've seen million Harleys in this lot, but I've never seen a bike like this.....Its beautiful, what is it?" I gave him a quick education on the "other American motorcycle" and I was very happy it wasn't mistaken for an HD ;)

Most of them just don't get it. The same road lies under all of us and the same wind blows in our faces. If anyone pays attention to motorcycle rights at all they would realize that when legislation comes along united we stand and divided we fall. Although typically it is ABATE & The MRF that are in there slugging away. AMA also I guess but they are much more laid back. It really doesn't matter as much what you ride as much as riding responsibly and protecting your right to ride free.

I still ride both and receive nothing but compliments on all my bikes usually bc I have customized them but My Vic is the newest and still pretty much stock besides the rear end having bag fillers and plate relocator and it gets tons of compliments as well from fellow HD riders. I think it's the color that generally grabs their attention bc there aren't many suede nuclear sunset bikes around. But it definitely gets them asking questions of interest. I'm sure one day I'll run into one of the old time airheads that will say something offbeat but til then I'll let my new bike enjoy all the attention ?

I think most NON Harley riders protest too loudly.. If it bothers you as to what Harley owners say about your ride, Get a Harley and join the crowd.. Oh and Victory is not the other American bike any more.. Polaris dropped that line when they came out with the Indian...

You guys are lucky ride up on a vision and hear all the comments.
If I'm in the right mood I tell them I made it over the winter.
Most of Harley guys give me **** but there always a few that like it.
For you that bash Harley go ride a new one you'll be surprised how nice they are. Yes they're not fast and really they never have been. Smart Harley riders only race other Harleys cause the Jap bikes blow past them. 95% of the time thats all the Vic guys say is how they can beat a Harley but they never brag about anything else. Truth be told since 09 they have made many improvements that have left Victory behind in improvements. Go to youtube and listen to the videos of their exhaust. You hear the exhaust not all the motor gear noise like the Vic's has.
It gets me how you all know about Harley because its what you been told its not what you know first hand.
Of course everyone thinks its a Harley what else has rode up to the bar for the last hundred years

A couple days ago, after a long day on the road we stopped at a restaurant. When we came out of the café there was a older fellow (my age ) standing by the bike waiting to see who it belonged to. He had been out there for a while eyeballing the bike. Him being completely awestruck by the appearance of the XCT . . . he oo’ed and awed over the bike for another ten minutes while we were gearing up to head out. He was a rider in the past. He was wearing a well seasoned leather riding jacket, not the Marlon Brando style, but more like a café racer cut of jacket. I got the impression he hadn’t been on a bike in ten or more years, but was still walking the walk and talking the talk. In his own words he was completely blown away by the appearance and style of the bike. He’d never heard of Victory, but was admittedly and outwardly head over heels by the styling and curbside appeal of the machine. Made my day.
