Do I need it.. Probably not but with 65k miles on my 2000 V92SC and not knowing how the person prior to the guy I bought it off maintained it I figure a spare motor all ready to go can't be a bad thing. My thinking would be to have a mild build above stock and keep it dependable but I have no clue what engine to look for. I seem to recall reading here only a V92 will bolt up but now can't find that thread. Anyone know what year/size engine I can put in this bike without breaking the bank?

Starting to get the 3rd gear issue which is also nagging at me.

Going to be a 99-2001 v92. A freedom v92 will not work due to the tranny changing in 02 then the full freedom v92 in 2002 on. I think your intentions are good but ay wind up with similar issues. First see if you can find the mod mark for the tranny upgrade. Next the one fir the speedo which resolves it resetting to zero miles. Both threads on here, just don't recall specifics.

Problems with 3rd driving your search? What oil you using and give us more info.

You may cut to the chase and call one of the high horse power bubbas on here and get some input and pricing on parts. Intake controller and EPROM with the right pipes and a good Dyno will bring it to life.

Used engines run the risk of cracked front cans if bike was crashed. Read too many bad buys to even think of a used engine from a smash.

Mileage. 60k on a Vic ain't nothin. Hopefully some food fir thought.

Not sure where to look for the tranny mark but will do a search. Speedo is not resetting. It actually went the other way and went from 65k to 700+k.
Took it to the local Vic dealer and they confirmed all recalls are done.
Hopefully I've just read to many issues and now think I'm having them.

If they confirmed the recalls are done that should cover your tranny. Unfortunately oil changes do cause some stiff shifting and 2500 is recommended. See the oil threads for input. I change at 3500. This may be a contributor. What oil you using and mileage. Haven't neared that one on the speedo. 700k?

If you feel good about the motor you can easily pick up some serious HP and torque for a small budgEt. If you already have the controller, I would start on a intake s&s as I don't think the torque tubes will fit. Call lloydz to check. A solid performance exhaust then EPROM and tune. On a bobber? I bet that thing will be a blast. A 2nd motor would not be an option to me on that engine with those miles. But that's me.

If you got specific questions you can probly find the answers here.

This link will show the bike and the work done on it:

It just had an oil change by the guy who built it and I would guess the oil has under 2k on it. He is meticulous about his bikes so I'm sure he used high quality stuff. I'll look at the oil thread and do another change based on what they recommend.

Yeah 700k on the odometer. When the builder took it apart it showed 61k or so then he pulled it apart, did some work and when he hooked everything back up it read 700k plus.

Thanks for the pointers

Nice lookin ride! At first the red was a shocker but grew on me quickly. Swap out that stock air box and I think that Aline will amaze you. In my TC I had the K&N installed and one day just removed the intake screen on the left. Mass a difference enough to buy the beds big sucker. Makes the cans stand out too. Looking forward to what you do to it.

Safe ridin. Tim

Its going to coast you about 3 grand to do another motor or more.
You should go see Lloydz and talk to him about rebuilding what you have now. It might coast about the same. It would be a solid strong motor after Lloydz did there magic.
Keep in mind you have to find a new motor hope its a good one. The longer a motor sits around the more rust builds up on the inside and you never know if its any good.
Or look to sell what you have and move up to a newer model.

Found an 03 V92 with 10k for 1500 plus shipping but sounds like keeping mine is the best option. I live in Maine so NY is a hike but... I'll give him a call and see what he recommends.

Tim do you have any close up shots without the airbox? I'd like to see it with your setup

Here's best I have while I'm on travel. Looks much cleaner and the extra o2 gives it a nice pep in the step. Would be glad to grab some additional shots or search here for removing stock air box on a 06 or older.

Looks good. Did some searching and looks like a minor pain to pull it out. Really you have to pull the tank? What brain surgeon though up that setup. I thought my V-Rod was a pain. This makes that look like a cake walk.

Well yea I won't say pulling your tank sux and then cutting out the stock box is not for the faint of heart but the results makes the pain worth it. I don't know if torque tubes will fit the hammer 92 or not but s&s is on lloydz site saying it will. In the interim, if that screen is still installed on the left you can pull that and put the 20 K&N in it for now. That does help. I went ness big sucker but think the tubes will be on by years end. Not sure about your cams but Lloyd said the stock cams in the freedom 92 were a good street cam. Not sure what your budget is.

Sounds like I may have a winter project ahead of me.
