The vent hose behind rear jug runs up between cylinder heads , is it suppose to just vent out there.?
Seems lots of oily crap, all in there?

Thanks

Supposed to vent into the airbox. Just fit a mini KN type filter to it to stop it sucking **** in and don't Max fill at oil changes as if it's right on or a bit over you'll get oily residue pumping out.
Higher you can get the filter the better.

When one adds filter/cap to vent tube on top of crankcase (#9), what about the other end where the vent connects to the frame (#6)?

Cap it.

If you are going to run an external filter on the PCV you need to cap the nipple on the upper frame or else your engine will suck dirt into the intake. You can pick up a rubber cap like a large vacuum cap used to cap or plug a vacuum system on an intake. Also you can put a short piece of hose onto it and stick a plug in it or a short bolt, make sure the bolt has a smooth shoulder on it that actually fits into the hose.

Oil smell

NOTE: If you run the external engine vent, or put a filter on it just be aware you may smell oil sitting at lights or when you park the bike after it has been ran for a while. The vapors or engine blow by instead of being sucked back into the intake will escape to atmosphere and you may smell the stinky oil smell. Just so you know, I did run my bike for a while that way and yes I could smell the oil, but I got a nose that is to sensitive sometimes, ha,ha.

Never block off #9 put hose on it and run down to ground. Auto store you can get small crank case filter so no sucking back.
Heck Lloydz never does anything with hose leave it attached to frame nipple

I posed the question so the pundits would clarify what needs to be done with either end of the vent.

Hi Salty, did you print a copy of the manual for your bike?

As a sample I printed a A3 size for my workbench...

Why? Are they hard to come by? Can't get your own?
Just being a smart ass like you is all!

Was a simple question originally that was answered by the good folks here, after all it's one of the reasons forums exist

Cheers

I went to a print shop, front page color, the rest of the 399 pages black and white, the paper is GLOSS, and very thick, the book will last forever.. My bike is a '13 and the printed book is '06 but that doesn't matter the 2013 manual was less quality, I use this book almost monthly, downloaded with courtesy of Bbob website...
