Dunlop D207 ZR 180/55/18

To negate any confusion I'll start again, here we go...

Just had my tyre man fit one to rear of my Vegas
180/55/18
About to begin testing in Aussie conditions.
Warned its a harder compound but my last Night Dragon was illegal at 8000 kms or 5000 miles and I want more.
Scrubbed in nicely on an 80 kms ride home the ling way, gonna do more today with peg scraping
. then Sunday got a 700 kms ride and the big test is how they are in the wet...they feel fine in the dry so far.
Im running 2 lb over front and back.
Still have an ND on front.
Im off for a ride.
Ps scraped my forkseals successfully yesterday as well as my regular 4000 kms 2500 mile cable end clean and lube.
All Good:laugh

Ps, says MADE IN USA on sidewall, was $85 cheaper fitted n balanced too.

Today...
Just got home from some peg scraping in this new Dunlop and its nice to ride on so far.
BUT!!! ..just checking it out now Im home and its actually a D207 ZR radial... Checked Dunlop website and its a V-Rod tyre!
180/55/18
Cant edit this threads title so just making you all aware which tyre it is that Im actually trialling.
Cheaper than the Pirelli or its competition, the Metz and Avon.
Gonna be interesting how long it lasts and how it sticks in the wet.
I got good feelings about it.

I hope this dunlop works for you, i took off the dunlop at 8000 Km and replaced it with Metz,

Dunlop in the wet slides on my bike, trafic light it spins more easily, i did not use the whole tire to the sides same as on your picture

The Metz grips better, and use the whole tire, 5 mm to spare each side ..... I do not know yet how many Km it will last ....

Just bought 2 night hawks & 2 Metz and are on there way shipped .... Hope i made the right decision too

Actually BP6666VR , I've done a bit of research on the net on this tyre and as well as V-Rods its used on Sportsbikes as well in various sizes.
Could very well turn out to be fairly sticky and not last long at all:eek
That'd be pretty funny I reckon!

Just finished watching a rip roaring tale "What we did on our holidays"
with Billy Connolly who sorta dies while in the company of his grandkids and they give him a Viking funeral....its sort of hilarious and a bit moving as well.....anyway Im off to bed got a big day on tomorrow, which is actually today as its quite late so its bedtime to dream of riding tomorrow/errrrr today I mean....Get the movie its great!
More tyre testing to come!

ok done over a 1000 kms on this D207 Dunlop Sportmax since Friday morning and I like it.
Its great right up to and on full cornering limit in the dry, confidence inspiring.
So far done a coupla hundred kms in wet and damp road conditions and cant feel any movement...not really hammering it in the wet though.
I did sneak a look on a V-Rod forum and most seem to piss the OE tyres off and go to Metz, and even more go to the big wide arse back ends.
Had a good run over one of my favourite twisty roads today with a young fella on a Sportster Iron following me.
naturally I had to keep slowing down to let him catch up so I could leave him behind again...was a bit of fun.
Stopped near home and talked bikes for 10 minutes, my Vegas really got his attention........could be another convert when he rides one

speed ratings + wear

generally higher speed rated tyres are softer + wear quicker. a friend i worked with had a honda crotchrocket that burned the performance dunlops bald by 3500 miles, he was also a "crazy" rider!!!

ok took the D2O7 Dunlop rear off today at just shy of 7000kms.
Had a bloody big nail in it this morning it looked flat so I pumped it up to 50psi and found the nail, it entered the tyre sideways giving it an entry and exit wound, both leaking air.
Got on the phone to my tyre man who had a Night Dragon in stock and with an hour till he shut and a 20 min ride to get there I fired up my compressor and whacked 80psi in and hit the road.
About half way there I felt the steering go a bit wierd, nothing untoward though, still capable of holding 50 mph on the straight.
Amazing these modern wide low profile tyres!
Stayed on the bead and got me to the tyre shop ok...
The D207 was close to the wear indicators and I woulda been very lucky to get another 1000kms out of it so even though the Dunlop was cheaper and hung on well the Pirelli Night Dragons better mileage makes up for the price difference.
And its good to know a flat tyres not the end of the road though riding on it does destroy the integrity of the carcass and its desperate measures if its not near the end of its treadlife.

Whouw Mbx, good tread reading the whole from start to finish was fun, pitty you could not finish the tire coz of the nail, you never use the tubles tire plug ? Then you could ride without loosing that pressure and just go the next day changing that tire ?

No mate it was a BIG nail like 3 inches long sideways into the outer chunk of tread and leading into an exit in the tread groove.
Töo much for a plug to fix, even temporarily, and why take the risk.
Got a brand new tyre on now thats gonna last 8-10,000 kms

At $320 fitted, thats 31 kms to $1 for tyre rubber

Ohhhh now that is nice to see, how many kilometers per dollar, ha ha ha i like that, first time on this forum somebody did that, good one ..

Oil / filter / tires per kilometers .... Good thread starter

Yeah mate that is a big a## nail ... lucky your rim not damaged , be care full all of us ...

dunrocks = stiff

its said the dunrock tyres ride harder, prolly due to stiffer sidewalls realised by your experience. when i upgraded my hammer OE 250 to a night dragon 240 i noticed a slightly better ride + a lot better handling. while researching tyres i found the dragons to be the lightest + dunrocks to be the heaviest of said fitments, unsprung, rotating weight @ the outermost portion of the wheel assembly is most important, less being more-much more!!

I took the dunlop 250 off at 80% finished and put it in my garage, if i ever need a backup, yes agree it is a hard tire, good description rodhotter, i changed for the Metz 260 and the bike handle about 20% better ... Coz of MbX i bought 2 night dragon for the front .... So hope that will be a good improvement too

Happy to hear that MbX has good experience with the Dunlop ... But i thought it was terrible, slivering and sliding as a girl on wet roads ... With wet leaves, hope that is a good description how the stock tire felt.

The Dunlop I tried was a D207, standard OEM. On V-ROD HDs that run 180 55 18
NOT. The Dunlop e3s that come standard on our Vics.
The D207 is a soft tyre.
Hence the low miles.

@dillpickle what size was yr D417 mate, a 180 or 200?
Heard the 200 HD tyre will fit ours
