3000 people have died so far so that means 6000 were infected assuming the 50% mortality rate of the disease.

We now have at least 2 confirmed cases in the USA now with over 100 people exposed and growing by the minute. In the morning of Tuesday this week there were believed to be 18 people exposed and by noon today there were 100. By this time tomorrow it will probably be 1000.

What are you doing to protect yourselves and your family and friends?

Anyone ignoring this issue will not do well. In one month the better part of this country will have exposure.

I don't have all the answers but I do have some questions.

What are you doing or going to do when this hits closer to home? Do you have a plan on how to keep your loved ones safe? Are you armed and have enough ammo to keep the desperate and crazies away? Are you willing to do what it takes to keep your family safe?

These questions need to be answered in your mind long before you need to make a decision about them. If you are not willing to kill to save your families then maybe you should just go ahead and leave them now so they know you won't help them when, not if, the time comes to do what you never thought you would have to.

OK. Hopefully I have your attention now. Here is my hope. I hope none of this ever comes to pass here in a country where something like this would normally be unthinkable. That kind of thinking will only get us so far so preparing for the worst and hoping for the best is most likely going to keep more of us alive if the unthinkable does happen.

Arm up, ammo up, at the very least stock up on rice and beans with lots of water in containers, so you can at least weather the storm if you can survive it.

For anyone thinking I may be an alarmist overstating a mild threat; you might be right but are you willing to put your families lives on the line with that thought?

Seriously folks. I have my nose, ears, and eyes looking listening and smelling what the heck is going on around the world and it is just about to hit here in a way that has never happened before just like when 9/11 happened.

Islam and just about everyone on the planet who has seen how well we live now hate us and want to take us down; hard. Even the liberals in our own country!!

Um... they will succeed but that doesn't mean we have to die in the process. We can live to fight back if we prepare NOW.

Ebola is just the first wave. They will come in armed after that and we need to be prepared as a people to fight back; hard.

Peace be with you brothers sisters and bless you. May we meet on the other side and share a pint.

Comments are very welcome even if you want to call me a kook.

Oh wow! I record just about everything I watch and I just watched O'Reilly's opening dissertation that he does on every broadcast and this one sounded a lot like what I just said here. Too ironic!!!

Pandora called. Now that the box is empty she wants it back. Idiotic decision to allow flights into this country.

Well BBob let me be the first to tell you that you are an alarmist and those other things you said, but you could be right.

Ebola seems to have a 4-21 day incubation period. But people only can transmit it when they are symptomatic. The symptoms can be quite typical of a cold or flu at first so a person might not realize they even have it like the guy who recently came into Texas. I am pretty sure he would not have visited family if he even thought he might have been sick. Unless he really hated his family of course.

Plagues have changed the world more than governments have.
Does anyone know what will happen if it begins to spread?
At what point would marshal law be declared? I would imagine that interstate trucking will be shut down and air flights IF it begins to take off here.

I am pretty concerned but I know I tend to over react to most stuff.
That you are over concerned bothers me. O'Reilly's rant doesn't bother me because he is in the business of spreading fear. Nothing personal against him but fear brings good ratings for media personalities. Good ratings keep him in his job. Those who are best at scaring the bejesus out of folks are in the biggest demand.

Texas is only about 4 hrs from WA by plane. World isn't near as big as it used to be, which is a problem.

I am guessing that going for a ride is probably the best reaction at the moment because if this does take off here 9 out of 10 of us won't be around to do any riding in a month.

Probably getting some food and water on hand is right up there with riding too. Not sure if guns are going to be necessary. Maybe to put yourself out of your misery if you get it . Not sure that ebola is really scared of a glock.:ltr:

Thanks for posting I was afraid I was the only nut out there. cheers Just kidding Bbob.

Dayum. And here I was thinkin' iffin I was a really good shot I could take out them little critters from at least 50 yards.

All kidding aside though; the guns will only help keep people away from you and yours. Obviously other things like gloves and masks will help us to keep from getting sick.

And since there is a 50% mortality rate at least 50% of us from this forum should survive. Obviously I would really prefer it to be 100%.

90 or 50 % I am still going riding.:D
I believe riding is the correct solution to most of life's most serious problems, incurable diseases included.
Ebola or some kid texting his hot date, when the show is over it's too late. No reset buttons here.
Ride now while you can, tomorrow will bring it's own troubles.
Have a good night!cheers

Bbob,
It sounds like you actually have a good grip on things to me.
But I thought I might explain my last post a little better.

Years ago I read this book:

It isn't perfect by far, but it did change how I viewed things like Ebola, and other plagues. The book is about how disease/ plagues have changed the world through the recorded history of man.
You can buy it for almost free used and it's definitely a different read.
You may like it you may not.

A lot of people like the news media are going to capitalize on peoples natural fears during this. The news media exists on fear alone. That is what drives their bottom line so that is understandable. Right now they will be cashing in as much as possible. The results are shameful because they know exactly what they are up to but they are what they are.

The government will and has jumped on the fear wagon with more to come. No emergency goes unwasted with them. By the time they are done this will lead to more taxes less freedoms etc, etc.
And of course more taxes are less freedoms in themselves.

Unfortunately by the time the government is ready for ebola it will have mutated to another form or it will have naturally become less deadly. History shows that this is what plagues do after they jump to humans, eventually, but it takes time which is always bad for those who are around when it first happens. Or so it has been in all great pandemics of the past.
But any government will use this natural fear we all have to increase it's size and it's power at our expense.
That 's the way of governments. It's unfortunate for the citizens of the countries they govern, but true.

A reasonable fear is healthy ,but when groups exploit these fears for personal gain, it does nothing to extend the life of a single individual ,which during a pandemic should be the focus.
Don't let these guys wind your clock and be aware that they will be trying to. Fear can paralyze people and ruin their judgment which then makes the suckers for politicians, medical professional etc. and does nothing to protect them from these as now incurable diseases. Just like the Glock thumb up

Use your best judgment and do what you can. Do go riding cause if it turns out good, you turned a bad moment into a good time and if it turns out bad you had some fun...
And yes I find the whole thing upsetting.
I'm with you on that. off the:soapbox: on to the bike for a :ride:

It's a very serious situation. So was HIV when it was all abuzz in the early 1980's. But I am not in a panic, nor am I worried (too much) about the number o exposures the US will have in the coming months or years.

I have been in the medical field over 41 years (retiring next year). And for 40 of those years I have been a CLINICAL Medical Technologist (Lab Tech), I have been a Laboratory Supervisor in a 300 bed hospital for the last 20 years, so I have seen my share of diseases in my time. I have been through both the HIV craze and several Influenza outbreaks where the isolation of many patients was followed in our hospital. During this time, I have also been exposed to other diseases like TB, Hepatitis's, VRE's and MRSA's...all of which require isolation processes being followed.

Ebola is a single disease. Right now the US has had (quietly) about 8-10 OTHER "hemorrhagic" diseases that are considered near fatal diseases in 3rd world countries and I believe that all but one of those patients RECOVERED. And although almost all of these patients with deadly diseases recovered here in the US, the astonishing thing is that NOT A SINGLE HEALTHCARE worker was exposed, or infected with this disease using simple and effective NORMAL isolation and bloodborne pathogen precautions. NOT ONE!

The same goes for Ebola. Remember MOST of their deaths have occurred from unsanitary conditions, non-compliant patients for quarantining, and most of all...lack of medicine and adequate medical care.

If you REALLY want to be scared...get a case of the flesh eating bacteria we have here...when there are virtually no antibiotics to kill this stuff (which is why there are so many amputations). There are NUMEROUS infections and diseases that could be devastating to a Country IF ALLOWED to run rampant without the proper medical procedures in place.

But for God's sake, the biggest and worst thing any person in this world could do is listen and watch FOX NEWS. I don't care what other TV station you watch...it can be right wing, left wing, conservative, liberal....or best yet... NEUTRAL (if there is such a beast)...but do not use FOX NEWS for anything called a fact.

So back to the original post... Yes, it is worrisome. I have GREAT confidence in the research and techniques that hospitals use to quash epidemics and pandemics in our Country. And for that reason, I have no more concern for the Ebola virus at my hospital than I would for MRSA, HIV, TB or even Influenza.

FDR said that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself, nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.

I don't personally think that putting holes in a meat sack full of blood bugs is the right approach to staying healthy but hey, to each his own.

A liitle math exercise just for gits and shiggles. 3000 Ebola dead so far. Right.
300 million Americans give or take. So, if all the Ebola deaths reported to date would have happened on American soil, that would be what... 1 in 100,000 dead from Ebola. I think that's right but I'm only into my first cup of coffee but I do have a GED.

OK, 1 in 100,000.
So, most recent data Pop can pull up on the ever accurate inter webs tells me that in 2011 the stats for firearms related deaths in America was 10.3 per 100,000.
Hmmm.

Looks like Pop is 10 times more likely to die as a meat sack than as an Ebola victim.

Especially considering that the reported cases in the US is 2 not hundreds of thousands and no fatalities yet.

Pop hasn't forgotten AIDS. This country turned into a whining bunch of pussies afraid to look at each other. If we continue to be scared of every little potentially fatal condition that confronts us then we deserve to be extinct and mother nature has a peculiar way of delivering what species deserve.

With a tip of the hat to Arkiebiker who hit the HIV argument while I was hunt and peck typing on a tablet.

You guys bring up some good points except, of course, not watching Fox News. ;)

Actually I get most of my news from all kinds of web sites with the Drudge Report being my personal favorite. He's good at making things sound worse than they are but all he does is link to the various news sites that have the info instead of just one or a few.

I think the best bet is to be aware and cautious without going overboard. Of course that's different for everyone. I like the comfort of knowing I have enough basic food items to get by if I do need to hunker down for a while.

I do think they should stop people from coming in from those areas having major outbreaks for the time being until things settle down there. Of course if this thing mutates and goes airborne things will get dicey really fast.

I'm not sure comparing HIV to Ebola is a fair comparison. Generally HIV is sexually transmitted whereas Ebola can be transmitted in a much more casual way once the person is symptomatic.

I guess we will see where and how this outbreak goes here in the US over the next week or so. If it is contained I think even those who live in Dallas will be able to take a breath.

Ebola does not make people run the streets acting crazy, that's what Fox News is for.

You can't shoot your way out of Ebola Bob. If you get it, you will be too sick to get out of bed let alone shoot straight.

Fortunately, the Republicans haven't had a chance to gut the CDC completely yet. Proper protocols can keep this from spreading. They did in Nigeria anyway.

It's the same echo chamber of BS.
As usual you twist the meaning of what I and others say. Of course it doesn't make people act crazy but stupid people or desperate people will do things they normally would not do.

You don't like Fox News. Fine. Go watch MSNBC which I'm sure you think is THE premium news outlet. Their viewership must be up to 8 or 9 by now.

You liberals really are the dregs of society. Nothing but hate in those small minds of yours.

Hey Bob...Fox is the worst...but that doesn't mean that the rest are much better. I "USED" to be a newswatcher. I'm sick of the whole LOT!! CNN was my favorite, now everything is BREAKING NEWS.

I retire as of next Thursday. I will remove my watch (I'm keeping my iPhone 6 Plus though)...and I'm gonna watch LIGHTHEARTED RETRO TV and let the rest of the world go to hell in a handbasket...and I don't care.

I'm not gonna worry about politics, race wars, religion ideologies, or diseases (unless they effect me or my immediate family personally)...The ONLY thing I'm gonna worry about is how I can wear this ALMOST wore out old body OUT so that when my big butt hits the grave...its totally and utterly worn out.

But that's just me. LOL

Sounds like fun Wally. I bet you will still keep your mind sharp by keeping up with some things though. :) And riding. Lots of riding...

There are actually two new straight news providers on my cable. One is called One America News, the other Al Jazeera. One America does its share of conservative commentary between reports, but they do report the news without a lot of BS or slant. Ironically, Al Jazeera is probably the best news source in the country and I haven't heard them do anything political.
