Engine Light

Hi Guys & Gals,
I’ve been having trouble with my engine light coming on frequently. There I no set time it comes on and no set length of time it stays on. Now the battery is brand new. I’ve checked the connections for the alternator. I’ve gone through and checked all wiring and also checked the connection of wires to the battery. Also there is nothing wrong with the amount of oil in the bike. I even thought of dancing around the bike whilst spraying WD40 into the air, but I thought better of it.

Do a search to see if/how you can get the bike to display trouble codes associated with the check engine light. If possible, this should give you a reason the check engine light is on.

Codes, what codes. The manual says nothing about codes on the Victory Boardwalk.
Page 29 on the owners manual I just looked at but a different year may be elsewhere. Once you've got the code someone with the same model and year with a service manual should be able to tell you what it means.

Hi, I’ve been able to take a photo when the engine light came on. Hopefully someone with the Workshop Manual will know what it is.

From looking around some more I think these codes are limited to the Digital Wrench. If you've got a friendly Indian dealer around they may be able to help.

At home it seems we're limited to the blink codes which aren't as specific. Check back with the service manuals to see how to read the blink codes and what they mean. Hopefully you'll get a better indication of where to begin looking.

Thank you for replying however, how can a sensor be out of range? Are you talking about the sensors that are on the headers?
This all seems to extend back to a pothole incident that happened at the start of the yr. I was returning home from Melbourne when I hit an unmarked pothole hidden in the shadow of an overpass. It ripped my rectifier right off the bike. Because it was still hanging on by a few wires I zip tied it up and out of the way. I got about 200k before the bike died. Battery was terminal and I had to find a replacement and this was on the 1st January. I got a replacement battery which cost me $289.00 ( had no choice ). The replacement battery only lasted for 90k which got me to my mates place. Even though it was New Yrs Day I put in a request on FB for the best place to get a new rectifier. So it took 7 days to get a replacement rectifier. During this time the battery was on charge so when I got and fitted the new rectifier I was able to continue my ride back to Queensland. The new battery only lasted 4 months because the darn thing wouldn’t hold charge. The battery was Century battery and I believed they were still made in Australia, but they are now made in China. So that was an expensive exercise. When I got back home I put her in for a full service and a general check over as the roads to Melbourne were in crap condition due to mass flooding. This is where the battery got replaced. Now from this service onwards the bike started to get the engine like coming in at in opportune times. The bike had been back a few times trying to solve the problem, but with no luck.
I did however in this time downloaded the workshop manual for the Boardwalk, but I couldn’t get it to print double sided, so gave it away as a bad joke. Yes I know it’s wordy, but without this I can’t expect anyone to come up with a solution.

Front Oxygen sensor wire and connector is normally zip tied to the regulator wire on a steel frame bike. Maybe it was also damaged, maybe it is bad, maybe your voltage issues has caused IAC out of sync causing out of range AFR readings. So many possibilities.
the fault codes are listed somerwhere in the /victory owners website, if memory serves me correctly,. I believe also that the codes are good for all the models that spit them out. I’ll have a look on the owners website and see if I X and find them in the files. It’s handy to have them so you can at least get close to the problem. As with all electronic troubleshooting via AI, the fault code will get you close, but maybe not right there, so watch out. In other words, the fault code shows that the front sensor is out of range. But, is that because the sensor is bad? Or the wiring going to it, or a host of other minor issues.

Cheers mate.

I don’t know if this will help with yours or not but my check engine light started coming on randomly. I could ride a bit , shut it off for about 5 or 10 minutes and when I would restart the light would stay off. I like you checked all connections at sensors and cleaned any corrosion and applied electrical grease. I also saw that where the battery ground strap connected to the frame had a little rust under the bolt. I scraped it down to shiny metal, and applied electrical grease. I haven’t had any engine light come on again in over 5 months now.
