I got my first chance to ride Cali last spring and I'm with you. My favorite "sporty" roads were up around Ft Bragg. Most of the state is scenic. I don't understand why there aren't more riders out there. Seems like everyone and there mother rides a motorcycle in Ohio, and we got little but flat earth and cornfields.

There are ALOT of bikes on the road around here - the western slope of the Sierra, between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe = on a nice day it seems like every 5th vehicle is a bike!
I went to Ft Bragg in Sept. that is a beautiful area esp when you go thru the Redwood forest! We were in the area in the early afternoon and it was super bright - you needed sunglasses and still were squinting - we went into the RW forest and it was dark and 15 degrees cooler - had to take off the sunglasses to see! We stayed in a hotel right on the ocean in Ft. Bragg - I do that ride every summer....

I got to try Silverwood Lake (Hwy 138) the other day, and that was a pretty fun ride. Mild twisties but good scenery. Also like San Gabriel Canyon Road. Haven't tried Angeles Crest yet, but definitely on my list, along with Idyllwild.

Hey RLJ3RD, are you on your brakes?

That floorboard is close to scaping..

and you're leaning to the right...

you have my bad habits that I'm trying hard to break...

hang that ass just a 'bit' off to the left and you'd sit that puppy up much straighter into that turn...

I've driven your YEARS and somehow started driving sloppy and lazy, when I got my CrossRoads my bad habits were VERY obvious.. they didn't show up as much with my BMW that could be leaned over MUCH more than the victory without scraping anything.

You can ride em wrong but you'll be scraping stuff and that's not a good thing if you can help it. It's AMAZING what a little adjustment of body position will do in the twisties.

(My two cents from a backseat driver that you didn't ask for)

I use to ride from Lake Isabella to Tehachapi trough Caliente. Slow ride, lots of cows running around, but a really nice ride.

Problem with the super twisties is when you become a road block to the racers (Those HD's are FAMOUS for being such road blocks)... I'm afraid most of us on our Victory's will also be such road blocks, we can't go hard into the corners the way the twisty regulars can... not the best idea to hit Mullholland past the Rock Store on a Victory on a busy weekend, you'll get in the way.

I agree to a point, but I aint gonna not have fun just so someone else can have his. There was a group of us (10 Vics, a FJR & a V-Rod) went thru there a couple weeks ago early afternoon, only got passed by one rider. Here is a pic from that day...

I've done Palomar Mountain and De Luz Canyon on a Vulcan, but not on the Hammer. I also want to try Ortega Highway, which looks and sounds like a fun ride. My brother was one of those guys on the Ninjas that loved the twisties. He used to tell me how great a ride Ortega Highway is. Hopefully I can check it out sometime soon.
