In Dec 2011, after over 30 yrs of riding HD's, I purchased a 2011 XC demo from a local dealer and recently had my first/last service done with them. A couple of weeks ago it needed the 10,000 mile service and new tires so I returned to the dealer, ordered new tires(Bridgestones that I'm very happy with so far) and scheduled the service appointment for a week later. Replaced the tires as they hadn't been taken care of very well as a demo.

Dropped the bike off on a Monday for the Tues service appointment and didn't get it back until Thurs. When I pickced it up was told they didn't have an air filter in stock so one was ordered and they were suprised I was taking the bike without waiting 6 more days for the filter to come in. Explained I made the appointment a full week before dropping it off and the filter should've been ordered then, however, that logic seemed to escape them. Then I got the bill....$757.67 for just fluids, lubing the cables, adjusting the belt and putting on 2 tires for which they billed 6.9 hrs labor without even replacing the air filer. The total included a 10% discount for being a new customer.

Checked with another dealer that's further away and they told me the exact same service would'b been $550 before taxes with them. Will be replacing the air filter this weekend at home while running the Ipod cables. Not a good introduction to factory services.

I assume the majority of your cost was the tires. I have never found a Vic dealer to have reasonable pricing on tires, I assume it is due to the lack of volume. I told my dealer what I pay for tires and if he could come reasonably close I would buy them there. He could not so I purchased them myself and had an independent shop mount them.

I have no issue paying a little more to the dealer, but double is not going to happen.

JK. Unfortunatly, that's Dealer service, not Factory service. Dealers seem to never have decent prices on tires. Air filter should always be in stock. I find multi line dealers don;t stock much Victory product.
Be careful removing the tank for the filter installation.

What he said. Unfortunately, that's one area that Vic really is hit and miss with since you're dealing with dealers...not Victory specific dealers. Didn't they give you a written estimate ahead of time for the work they were going to do? At least here in MN they're required to do so and I know there are other states that do that as well. Hopefully the other dealer will be better for you in the future!

Forgot to mention I had already paid for the tires before scheduling the service so they only had to mount them.

First service runs about $300 per Victory's "book" so it looks like they hit you with full retail on the service plus another $250 for the tire change out? I'd ask for an itemized list. Perhaps the yo-yo that printed the service Work order did not know you had already paid for the tires?

PS - My original dealer would have done the 1st service for the cost of the oil change kit ($70) but I was 200 miles away from him at the time. I paid $269 (to a local dealer) after negotiating it down from $350

I'm just a little curious, which dealer did you get your service done at ,and which did you get the lower price from?:confused:

Often times the original dealer will offer a basically "free" oil change and initial check up. That is what mine offered and others here have had similar offers. Unfortunately, that was at my vacation home which happens to be about a 4 hour ride so I checked out pricing at the local dealer options (only 2 at that time) and one was offering $179 service but was a bit further away. The local dealer, Ride Now (in concord, NC) agreed to "match their price" but AFTER the service, the service manager said "we would match the SERVICE price but you still have to pay for the oil change kit. This was NOT the deal with the High Point dealer but at that point I was tired of the hassle and just paid them the $179+$75+ taxes to get my bike back and decided at that point that I would NEVER take my bike there again for service. And never have. I bought my 5,500 mile oil change kit from the new Indian/Victory dealer in Lowell, NC and HAPPILY paid retail for it and did the service myself.

CTKingpin: Willow's did the service and Libby's gave me the lower price. Shark's in Stafford Springs has a good reputation but I live above you in Terryville so that's a haul. The parts guy at Willow's is OK but won't go back there for service.

My first service (500 miles) ran $250, which is a lot. Over $700 is ridiculous, even with the mounting cost. 6.9 hours of labor for mounting? Hell no.

Mine is in for first service (500 mile) now so it'll be interesting to see what the bill comes out to be when I pick it up.
