Hi there. Bought a 2011 XC a few months back, and so far have been having a great time. I have been lurking here and the the other vic forum scouring for info. Seems like a pretty great group of guys here. Or maybe Im just biased toward the motorcycle crowd. :smile

I will be posting up shortly to see if anyone has used a mini mill to clearance the cam carriers for Lloydz Touring cams. I have the mill, but the arbor holding the shell mill in the Lloydz video is something I have been unable to locate. Im not a "machinist," rather just a guy with a hobby mill that likes to play.

About the cams; I didn't know the touring cams needed to be clearanced until just now. I have the standard street cams (no machining needed) and am very happy with them. I wonder what the difference in feel is between the two.

Any machinist in your area should be able mill out whatever is needed fairly easy.

Just in case anyone else is interested in reading what Lloydz' site says about it....

HOH-VM1-DR: With incredible power increases for stock compression 106" motors, these are our drop in cams that require no valve spring or head modifications for '09-up models, typically yielding gains of 16-18 peak hp. For maximum benefit a good performance exhaust and fuel controller are highly recommended.

HOH-VM1-HPT-DR: Our High Performance Touring Cam is our preferred cam profile for Vision models, and can also be used on Cross Country models for riders that are looking for more high-end power than our Drop-In cams offer, typically yielding gains of 18-24 peak hp. To fit this cam, your Cam Carriers and Rear Carrier's Exhaust Rocker will need to be clearanced.

The extra hp is enough to be felt by the butt dyno I would think. Especially when pulling a hill.

Thanks for the welcome. Truth be told, I like living here pretty well. Im close enough to the mountains that I can ride my dirtbike, and if I need to go to the city (greater SF area) thats not to far either. All in, if you can stand the heat of summer, living in Sac is pretty good. Although, being from AZ, you can probably do the heat. When I rolled into Havasu City a few months ago, it was only 115... at 9pm it was still 107, and raining. Props to the hearty creatures that live there.

As far as having a jobber clearance my carriers, if its within reason I like to do stuff my self. Just a pride/ego thing prolly. :) I know for a fact the machine shop can do it cheaper than what im willing to spend on the tooling. Im just not 100% I can get in there with a conventional end mill and have been looking for extended length keyway cutters that will get to the depth I need and then also side cut deep enough. My little mill is pretty dang pedestrian compared to a Bridgeport knee mill, or the like.

The dyno charts show very similar curves for both the touring and regular DR cams. Where the touring outshines the DR is at the very top of the rpm range, they carry peak power up a few ponies right at the top. I have a sportbike background and have most recently been riding a V65 Magna. I spent the first few rides on the Vic bouncing the poor thing off the rev limiter. LOL

Hey Ric! I reside in Elk Grove and work in downtown Sac. We could uses some of your PDX rain.... It was sooo smoky here this morning from all the fires. Wine country is on fire! Bad! I know a couple of people who have lost houses, heart breaking really.

I made the unfortunate mistake of showing up in Portland at 4PM on a Friday afternoon riding the Vic to Longview. It took a while to make it all the way through town.

Too bad we weren't "connected" when you came through Portland, I could have escorted you on faster surface streets. We are the 25th largest cit wit the 10 worst traffic due to an anti car city council.
Elk Grove to downtown--that's a sucky commute too, unless you have irregular hours. But you can use the HOV and lane split. Sweet.
I saw what your heat was last summer. We had a near record number of days over 90 and I thought I'd die.

I understand. Some may disagree but IMHO even though the Victory Freedom engine will handle those upper end rpm's; it's probably a good way to shorten the life of that engine by a substantial amount.

I have no scientific proof; just a lifetime of riding on these air-cooled V-Twins either with Victory or Harley. Obviously the Victory engine is far superior but it's still a big twin. Moving that amount of mass that fast will, again IMHO, take its toll.

Take this how you will. FWIW. YMMV. I rarely ride above 4k rpm. It's simply outside the power band for 99% of my riding on either bike but there's still that 1% when I'm feeling particularly frisky.

As long as those cams give you the power you need down in the rpm's you will generally ride in once you adjust to this type engine; I can't see how you can go wrong.

I dont split lanes on the bagger. Im just not comfortable with its bulk. Also I typically dont ride to work, there are too many SUVs and mini vans that are absolutely oblivious to the world around them.

Next time I'm in PDX, we'll cruise the blvd's looking like were looking for trouble ;)

Edit: apparently mai spling und grmmer R not so gud.

There is merit in your argument, and like you, I dont exceed the 4K mark excessively. I do however want a big grin when I turn the throttle. Just a preference. Top ends aren't too bad, how often are these bikes requiring main bearings/crank work?

That's weird. It must be part of the anti-spam checks and balances. Hopefully it will soon be resolved.

Howdy from now turning cold north.
Lloydz might have a exchange for the caries and you would need to do any work.
Have you looked at WB cams. I have read good performance from them. They say they don't tick as loud as Lloydz cams.

It seems to be resolved, but the reply I tried to make last night got snagged by the filter and still isnt showing. Oh well, not a biggie.
