Yesterday's Vikings game had to be the most insane last few minutes ever. All sport team up here chock be for the big win.
The game was played where the superbowl will be played. If you don't have ear plugs your hearing will be damaged. A 4 block radius around the stadium is closed to cars and trucks. Bus route has been moved 5 blocks away. All 30 some parking ramps have been closed to anyone that doesn't have a superbowl tickets. There is more 150 party tents and events going on. Out of towners are shocked by the snow we have. Hotels that provide housing to homeless and poverty people have to move out and find a new place. We have more police and national guard people watch us then normal. They have a security center set up with over 200 camera watching the city. They expect 100000 million people to come to town. Bars will be open to 4 am instead of 2am but they have to buy a special permit for that. The state owns a little less then half the stadium but no one knows where the tax revenue will go. I few friends have season tickets and if they want super bowl tickets it will cost them $6,800.00 bucks and it will be up in the cheap seats.
Getting real tired of football now

I stopped caring about pro-sports sometime in the 90's when it was obvious it was nothing more than a big business. The game and the fans were just a way to bring in revenue and lots of it. During regular season it costs over $1000 for 4 people to go the game, park, buy soda's', beer, and hotdogs, and of course the ticket in many places like the Northeast (NY and New England). The lesser expensive places would be around $100+ each.

The real kicker though was the game would not be televised locally unless a certain percentage of tickets for the game were sold. This means they punished the home team fans for not going to the games. If you lived out of the area you could watch the game on tv.

Not just football but pretty much all pro-sports became too expensive to go to for the average working person getting paid hourly. Lots of people turned to college sports for this reason and get just as much, maybe even more, enjoyment from it.

I played sports in high school so I really didn't get a lot of out of watching sports while I was young enough to play. Far more fun to actually play the games than sit on my butt and watch it. Now that I'm getting to be an older guy; I can kinda see the attraction though.

I think that's why softball leagues are so popular in a lot of places. Regular men and women can get out there to get their sports fix on. I liked racquetball for the longest time.

The NFL stopped showing the opening ceremony of kneeling players on tv. I guess it's out of sight out of mind.

I stopped in to a VFW Post yesterday. I didn't ask but someone in there told me they no longer allow any NFL games on the tv there due to the kneelers. I hear it's a common theme among VFW and American Legion Posts.

As long as they're kneeling, I ain't viewing. Besides, we had a nice break this weekend in the NW Rain Festival and Sunday I went on a great ride into the Coast Range with 8 other members of my SCRC chapter. Temps in the 50s, challenging mountain roads and camaraderie, that beats watching overpaid jocks in tights any day, in my book. And the icing on my cake was on my final leg home, there was just a hopped up Valkyrie and me. He was leading, but at every stop light on that highway he tried to shake me and I was right there on his tail. My 2 cylinders did themselves proud against his 6. Now that's REAL sport!

I wish I could go for a ride -10 here today and supposed to be -20 by tomorrow morning. I gave up pro football when all kneeling bs started, besides I just think about what I can do to the bike when I think about the cost of going to one game.

I've been boycotting the NFL since birth, never understood the fascination with any pro sports except hockey then they went on strike so I checked them off also.

One of the reasons we moved from MPLS is because of all the stadiums they were building and of course the currint ones that want theirs updated. And of course it shows up on our property taxes. First the Twins, then the University , then the vikings, then a remodel of the Target center were the Wolfs play. Traffic downtown was already crazy without any games going on.

I'm not a big pro football fan but I watch a little. I'm hoping for a Vikings/Jags Superbowl. I think I'm more of an anti-fan for the NFL. I'm in the "Anyone but the Patriots" camp. I'm sort of like this for college football as well since I'm a "Anyone by the Wolverines" type fan except my "home" team is the Michigan State Spartans. While I didn't go there, both of my daughters and way too much of my money did so the still owe me :) I also like Ohio St., Boise St., the rest of the Big10 except for UM, and the Univ. of Florida. My father played for the Gators way back when and they are pretty near where we spend the winters. We want to go to a UF game next year. The Swamp is supposed to be an exciting place to be for a game.

If it is a Vikings/Jags Superbowl, all I can say is .... Go Jags!

G'day,

Vinish

I am still boycotting the No Freaking Life losers that crapped on those that gave them the freedoms to whine like sissies. I have no respect for them!
