So I took my 06 Vegas 8 Ball forks in to the dealer off the bike to have my shock seals redone, and they called and said the lower fork tube bushing is shot. They are having a hard time finding just the bushing & no the whole tube assembly. I was wondering if any one here would have a suggestion as to where to look for getting just the bushing and not the entire tube assembly. Any help is greatly appreciated since my $200 fork job, just jumped to $1000

No I'm not crazy but get your old bushing and go to Harley the V-Rod has a 43mm front forks even Honda and Suzuki has 43 mm forks
Forks are forks and a lot of the parts are interchangeable.

43mm fork bushing you want to look for how round and how wide and thickness.
there all the same if you can find matching ones.
I puled a front end a part that 80 thousand miles on it and the bushing had only worn 3 thousands not out of specs. Makes me wounder about your dealer.
On the sly side ask them how they know the bushing is worn out ask to see it.
Don't let the bull **** you that bushing from a different model bike will not work.

What is spec on the bushings for them to be good?

I'm going to take a ride in there on Tuesday when they open again to see the bushing and talk to them about using another 43mm bushing. If not, ill be leaving with my forks and figuring it out on my own. I have a hard time believing the bushing would be shot and not the whole tube as well.

I would gently pry one off and then with a micrometer do some measuring.
If you go to a Honda or what ever dealer take it with you they can even measure it to see if it bad.
Bushing are bushing and victory gets them from the same place other bikes get them from.
There is a slot in the side of the bushing put a screw driver in there and turn side ways just enough to slide off the bottom. If you can't do that take the hole for tube with you.

Number 23 looks more like a spacer than a bushing in the picture.

VJ; you might be thinking of the bushing and seal kit which is number 18 in the pic.

Hard to believe that spacer would go bad. Something doesn't sound right. Either they are trying to milk you for more money or they simply don't know what they are doing.

I know the bushing goes on the bottom of the fork tube.
I didn't have a manual and the dealer has none in stock so it make me wounder where they found the spec to determine they were bad.
As long as there was fluid in the tubes it would take many miles for the bushing to wear out.
Now that I think of it this first time I have read wear the bushing have warn out.

Ahh, ok, I know the bushing you are talking about now. It was the wee hours of the night when I posted before.

One would think those came in the kit for that style forks if they were prone to wear.

Hmmm... I still think something is hinkey.

I talked to a dealer i used to work with back in Michigan and he also doesn't know how its possible the bushing would wear out. He said if the bushing was wearing out then he would expect the entire tube to be worn out as well. He concurred that a bushing is a bushing and any 43mm would work as long as their the same height and thickness. He would order them for me for 20.00 / piece if needed.

I then called and talked to the dealer doing the work. I told them to put new seals in 'em, reassemble & refill them and I'd come get them tonight. I figured if they start leaking again, I'll do the bushings and seals myself next time since I can purchase the special damper rod tool needed. I'm not going to let them continue to work on my bike anymore than necessary.

Forgot to add that I asked him for pics of the bushing. He said he plans on taking some while its apart. I should find out how bad this bushing really is tonight.

Pulled my Forks Lots, and the only time ever had to replace Bushings was once when the Seals were neglected and damaged the bushings by the previous owner .. You should be fine ..

I personally would not trust this particular dealer at this point and would request to be present while they re-assemble the tubes.

Like I said before; something is hinkey here... Victory dealerships are not supposed to try and take their customers for everything they can like HD and car dealerships.

There is a trust issue at stake here.

If you don't know all the bushing does is keeps the fork tube centered in the lower leg. Yes it can wear and if your fork leg was not machined correct it could wear out.
If you were having the fork oil changed I'm not sure but I don't see why they would pull the fork assembly apart when all they need to do is pull the bottom bolt and let it drain over night.
Heck you wouldn't even touch the fork seals. It they are not leaking you don't need to change them.

I think i replied to your thread on another board.

As far as the wear on the bushing general rule is if you can see the bronze or a specific wear pattern then they should be replaced. My 2005 manual says if the outter surface area shows 25% bronze then replace the bushing. But it doesnt give me any specs to measure too.

I tore my forks down this weekend due to leaking seals. I will most likely be putting the older lower bushing back in since its maybe at most 25% bronze. Unless i find a 43mm thats cheap otherwise not worried. And the inner surface of my upper bushing looked great so i have little concern. (i can post pics if anyone is curious what this looks like)

As for the "special damper tool" its just a T handle with a tapered rubber piece at the end. I made one with a broom stick, piece of towel, and electrical tape... Pure genius haha
