at the unveiling on the new Indian I picked up a ad flyer booklet, reading specs I see 12.5 to1 comp ratio!....is this for real.
or advertising hype...
what fuel are you expected to run with 12:5 ?
or is the ignition system so retarded it can cope?
The floor is open.......

My VStrom is 11.5-1 and "by the book" they recommend 87 octane.

must be new computerised ignition that retards the timing then hey?

I would think they wouldn't recommend an octane level that hurts performance, one that causes the ignition to retard the timing.

The shape of the cylinder head, piston and diameter have more to do with running higher compression than compression ratio alone. I've seen claimed 13 to 1 running regular.

ok well my heads obviously stuck in the past then,
advances in engine technology and spark management have enabled the use of higher compressions without the use of exotic fuels that wouldve been needed to run more than 11:1 in the past..
