I don't want to be accused of being a "lurker" so I thought I would do the "intro thing" and get it over with. My name is John O'Neil, and I live in Las Vegas, NV.

I've been riding for years.....and I ride a lot. I currently have a 2007 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic with just over 80k miles. I also have a 2012 Yamaha Super Tenere with about 22k miles. The Harley is beginning to get a little long in the tooth. The list of repairs is getting longer and longer. Most recently, I replaced the transmission. Add to that, clutch, stator, headers, brackets, shocks, etc....... If it were up to me alone, I would sell the Harley and keep the Tenere. I ride the Yamaha very hard....I use it like a dirt bike in the mountains around Las Vegas....and it's been "Flawless!" I love that Yamaha.

Alas, my wife wants a big touring bike in the stable. Can't say as I blame her, the Harley has a great ride. But I think it's time to make a change. I had a chance to ride a Cross Country Tour at a bike rally in Laughlin, NV. It's a nice bike and would fit the bill for me. If I go with the Victory, I'm certain that would be the model I would select. But still, it's that whole commitment thing I have......

So, while a fight the internal demons about what to buy, I figured I would join your forum and get feel for what kind of ownership experience I can expect. Don't worry, I expect to hear a variety of opinions and I understand that you can't please everyone. I see the same thing at Tenere forum I'm also a part of. I'm confident that by spending some time reading the posts of you guys I should be able to get over my commitment "issues" and come to a logical decision.

As I don't have any experiences with the Victory to share, you won’t be hearing much from me......but I will be reading as much as I can (translation....I'll be lurking).

Only one person can truly make you happy. Plenty of them can make you unhappy. Wife being one of them.
That said, how much of a test ride did you get? These are about as fine a rider I have thrown a leg across. I have ridden/owned all the big 4 in the US and a pretty good assortment of the others. Never found one I didn't like something about although I may not want it for the long haul.
Vic's have a good track record and are great mile eater. I had some problems with mine stemming from a poorly routed wiring harness and a poorly chosen dealership. I can say the bike has tried very hard to make up for that after it was fixed.
Easy to maintain, easy to ride, easy to to get the nits out of it. How will it hold up to my riding? Hard to say. So far it has done well but my riding has dropped off thanks to work.
The decision to go Vic was a mutual one for me and Momma. She has more than enough time in the pillion to listen closely to her.
A side note: Lostwife said she had never seen a smile like the one after the XCT test ride. FWIW

I think that like most forums, most people are quick to complain and blame polaris, while the ones that are satisfied may not post as much. I have had a XC since November 2009. Love the bike and have only had one problem that has came up twice. The bike is now ready for pickup at a local dealer (not the one I purchased it from). Long story short, at my 500 mile service I informed the dealer that the coating on the inside of the fuel tank was coming off where the fuel nozzle was entering the tank. The dealer informed me not to worry about it the tank had a large fuel bladder in the tank and should not be a problem.
At 18,000.miles the bike coming home from a road trip started starving for fuel and wanted to die at idle. I limped it home and took it to the dealer that I purchased it from. They informed me that the fuel pump pressure was great and couldn't find any problem. I asked them to just go and ride the bike, they would see that there was a problem. The next day they called and informed me the fuel filter was plugged and that was the problem. I picked the bike up and inspected the fuel filter, it was plugged with the red coating that was coming from the tank. I told the service manager that I had complained about that problem on the 500 mile check. I paid the 200.00 bill because it wasn't worth arguing. They have treated me great and always took care of anything I needed. At 36000 miles, I stopped at a local watering hole to get something to eat, and the bike wouldn't start when I came out. I was about 1/4 mile from another Vic dealer (lucky for me) they came and towed the bike to their shop. I informed them of the previous problem with the fuel filter. The next day there service manager called and said thet Polaris was going to replace the fuel pump, fuel tank, and fuel filter all at no charge to me. Not bad for a 4 1/2 year old bike. I read on the forums on the lack of service and complaints on how Polaris takes care of the product after the sale. But I am happy that they took care of my problem when the bike was way out of warranty. I am in my mid 60's and have had many bikes in my 45 years of riding, and can say that without a doubt Polaris ROCKS. whether you chose the Victory or the Indian you can't do any better than Polaris! thumb up

That's true, but my bike gets dirty too quick, and my tires don't last long enough! Oh, and the thing wants gas all the time... :mad:

JoNeil - Hi and welcome to the forum. You will find a lot of useful information on here for sure. I switched to Victory last July ( was riding a Harley Electraglide classic ). And so far I have been very pleased with the Motorcycle. The dealer I bought it from has been great, but a bit far from where I live. I did find another dealer that I am also pleased with. I was torn between the CCT and the Vision Tour. Ended up with the Vision. The wife is more comfortable then when on the previous bike. So far I have been trouble free, and have really no complaints at all. Which is what I was hoping for. Good luck in your future purchase. If you do decide on the Victory Motorcycle I think you will be very pleased with it.

Welcome. I would suggest looking at and riding as many differant bikes as posibble and choose the one that fits your needs the best no matter what name is on the tank. Don't shop around by worring what brand it is.

Well...I did it.

Last night I took advantage of the 0.0 APR and 5 yr warranty. Traded in both my bikes and got the Cross Country Tour.

You will be happy man. Just watch the dirt riding. Rocks in the XC's sprocket won't be very forgiving. Enjoy cheers

Fellow lurker here. Not YET an owner but, like you, letting the people speak and listing to the buzz. I have had many bikes and have test road a Vic way back in 99. Liked the ride but found it did not fit my touring needs. At that time i went with a venture. Soon I will test ride the Vic and that MAY be the final straw I guess. I hoped to hold off till the cooler weather to get the best deal but I am starting to itch.
I ride a Goldwing now, also pushing 80K with no mechanical issues such as yours. You and I are coming from two different worlds. however, this forum seems to have a great mix of people converting from several brands. All the opinions I have received here have been thoughtful, insightful and conveyed in a mature nature. I too have a SO that has something to say about what she sits on, happy wife-happy life I always say. She has spent more than a few miles on my friends Ultra and has reservations about making one are own.
