I'm liking the idea of going bigger on the front. Anything other than wheel, tire and fender required?
A magnum wheel would probably be the cheapest route right?

You'll also need the proper ABS ring for a 21" rim and technically an upgrade to your fork springs(although hardly anyone does this)

edit: I was hot on upgrading to a 21" front wheel but I finally got myself off the idea. The 21" wheel looks great but that's the only benefit.

I think you'll need a new ABS ring as well. The 21" kit that used to be available from Polaris also included the forks. I'm not sure what's different in the 21" wheel forks compared to the standard 18" front wheel.

I went the other way ditched the 21" and went to fatter 18"
On my Vegas that is.
Much better road feel and getting double the tyre mileage as an extra bonus!
Function over form.

Mine does not have abs so I shouldn't need that correct?

When Victory did the big liquidation I purchased the whole conversion kit - forks, rear shock, ABS module, fender and wheel. The forks, rear shock and ABS module were all part of a kit. The fender and the wheel were each sold separately.

If your bike does not have ABS then there isn't any ring or ABS module to replace.

I went with the conversion kit to have the best chance at having the bike perform as designed by Victory. I can tell you that there is a big trade-off between looks and handling. I like the look but the bike handled much better with the 18" wheel at slow speeds than it does now with the 21" wheel. One day I would like to ride a Magnum/X-1 and compare the ride with my converted CC.

I didn't take pictures of the whole process. Replacing the rear shock was a challenge, but the ABS module is easy if the rear fender is removed and the front end changes were fairly easy as well.

Big difference in handling huh? Not what I want to hear. I ride almost exclusively on back country winding roads and enjoy how well I can pitch it into turns now.
Gorgeous bike BTW! That 21 does look awesome on it.

I wish I had better news for you. It's not horrible and I am getting used to it, but the fact remains the bike handled much better with the 18" wheel.

remember he said slow speeds not country back roads.
Now magnum is a 120 size I wonder if the handling would be better with a father 21.
I have seen where guy have put 160 fat front tires on the front and really like it

I'm one of those guys. I have a 160/60 Dunlap Road Smart II MT on the front of my CCT. I love the look, form and the function of it. So far I have over 24K miles on that tire with hardly any wear showing at all.

I passed on a new 21" Magnum wheel and a new in the box gloss pearl white (my CCT color) 21" front fender earlier this week. They were being offered at $300 each. Just having to get a front fender painted would likely cost about that much. But I didn't really want to dump more money into the CCT for something I absolutely don't need. Plus I love the fat front tire so much I see no reason to change. Certainly not just for aesthetics. I also love my Victory chrome front fender bumper and that doesn't come in a 21" version either.


Question: What is different on the 21" wheel forks versus the 18" wheel forks? Would the 21" fender hit the chin fairing at full brake or fork compression?

For sure...its a killer look with that 21" hoop up front. I ride hard and look for every twisty back road possible, so as much as I wanted to add a 21" wheel, I had to get the idea out of my head....wouldn't want to do anything that impacts the XC's handling.

I immediately felt a slightly heavier front end on turn-in but the bike carves just as well as the 18" front. I know, that as long as my clutch cable doesn't break, I can hang with that 18" front wheeled XC lol

21" front wheel or not we could still turn circles around Scott's Stratoliner.... :wink

That looks like a big fat tire to put on the front of a stock XC.. did you have to mod the fender or anything? Clearance issues with the forks, or any other issues with the ABS? I'm certainly very curious about this mod.. I've ridden with guys running CT's on the rear and MT's run backwards on the front.. but they were more custom bikes. Didnt' think something like this would fit unmodded on a stock XC.

The stock XC can accommodate up to a 160 front tire without modding anything.....and it looks mean :cool:

the engineers think so..

HD came out with "21" wheel kit" for their late model touring bikes. Watching this vid, a couple things caught me immediately and I thought of this thread... Matt Laidlaw says "quite a bit of engineering went into this kit so handling isn't effected". The kit contains a complete front suspension upgrade and the 18" rear wheel has well. If the HD engineers figured out that these parts are necessary to go to a 21" front hoop on HD's, then the same probably holds true for any motorcycle. Changing the geometry of a motorcycle's front-end by adding a larger rim obviously has effects that need to be compensated for in the suspension and rear-end geometry.
