I am close to pulling the trigger on a 1999 V92C. This bike has been stored since it was purchased by the original owner and has only 94 miles on it. I know the owner who is an older gentleman who has decided to part with it for $4900. This is above KBB suggested retail, but for a V92C with 94 original miles it's hard for me to determine a good price on this bike. Obviously the bike is mint - it is practically brand new. It does need a tune up as you can imagine and oil change which I will do immediately after taking posession. From what I have found by searching for sales of 99 V92C's this seems to be a very good price, but I am interested in some educated opinions from those who know this make and model much better than I.

I have read several reviews on this bike and from all indications it was and is considered an average to above average cruiser for it's year. If anyone has other advice or knowledge regarding a 99 V92C I would appreciate it. Thanks

Expect to replace a lot more than oil (seals, tires, all fluids, battery...).

I'm sure it's a very exciting time for you, but a bike that's been sitting for 12 years is not a bike in prime condition. They're made to be ridden and maintained , not stored for 12 years. That being said, get the bike but don't spend your last penny on it thinking it will be ready to run. You have to put some money into it before it's safe to take it out.

If the seller wants KBB value for the bike, ask him to pay for everything that needs replacing. If you pay over KBB, you shouldn't have to put any more money to get the bike to riding condition.

Good points Crossroads. Thanks. Just after I posted this I searched through the forum and read all the transmission issues with this model year. I may have to rethink this if the recall wasn't done:( Glad I found this forum:)

I'm glad you found the threads on the tranny. With only 94 miles it probably wasn't done and expect to pay another $3000.00 for that.

Hmmmmm...... Polaris Dealer said all recalls were done but the VIN of this bike did not require the tranny recall. Does this sound legit or was I given bad info? Was there a VIN range that was affected by the recall? Were some of these bikes not affected by junk trannys?

Thats BS! It wasn't considered a recall. The owners had to pay for the labor and Vic payed for the parts. It was a crappy agreement by Vic to fix a problem.

It wasn't done by VIN. It was offered to all bike owners of the 99 and 00 models.

That dealer is full of it or he does not know what he's talking about.

Just to be sure ask him if it shows the tranny upgrade was done. If there is no record of it that he can find by VIN then it probably wasn't done.

Let's do some detective work here without relying on the dealer. The bike has 94 miles on it. How far does the seller live from the nearest Victory dealer?

On a bit of a tangent here.... One of the recalls for the '99's was regarding the speedometer; the multifunction display was always powered, and would drain the battery if the bike wasn't ridden for a few weeks; as I recall, a side effect of the recall was that the odometer was zeroed out - if that recall was done, it's likely that there's more than 94 miles on the bike...

All this aside, though, the '99s are great bikes, just with some teething issues, as is to be expected for a first-year bike. As posted above, expect to spend some $$$ updating & replacing parts, especially the original Dunlops - I'd bet the tread rubber is only slightly softer than oak by now. (Metzler 880s seem to be the one of the best replacements; I'm running them on my '99 and love them.) Another upgrade which is well worth it is to go to the 38 amp alternator; these bikes can get some strange issues due to low system voltage, and the upgrade takes care of that.

The tranny is a crapshoot - some have been known to go 100k without issue, some crap out at 15K... From what I've heard / read, they give warning instead of locking up suddenly, which is always nice.

Overall, if you can get the price low enough to reflect what will need done, go for it; just keep in mind the possibility of the tranny dying and save for a Freedom engine transplant (a good used Freedom engine is usually cheaper than the tranny upgrade!) if the transmission does go out.

Like crossroads said. This isn't the last bike on earth. Look for something with all the proper repairs and service.
