Years ago I spoke to a salesman at NECC as I was interested in a Judge (had never owned a cruiser up to this point). I told him up front that I was NOT ready to buy and wouldn't be for at least 6 months, maybe longer. He still spent a bunch of time talking to me about the bike and bikes in general. I saved his card and many months later went back with my gf (now fiance) to sit on one and see if it would be good for both of us. Talked to the same guy again at length and again with the caveat that I was not buying right away. Turns out the judge was too cramped for us so he showed us a crossroads that we both agree was super comfy. A couple more months later (roughly march of last year) I was finally ready to buy so I called him up and told him I was ready to go but wanted to test ride first (lots of money for a bike I've never ridden). Unfortunately they have a strict no test-rides policy and no idea when the demo truck was scheduled to come back though they guessed it would be near august. Not wanting to wait that long to decide if I wanted the bike I ended up at a different dealer where I bought my bike. I still feel pretty bad about not giving the guy the sale because he really did put in the time for it but I wasn't going to spend that kind of money without knowing I liked the bike. I could have gone back after the test ride but the bike I ended up with was used and NECC didn't have anything equivalent in stock. Regardless, I had a good experience with them and have used them for parts over the last year or two.

Fast forward to this week. I contact Mike, a member on another forum who is an online rep for NECC about the backrest recall. He puts me in touch with Dave, the service manager. Call up Dave and tell him I have a backrest with a luggage rack and I want to know what to do about the recall. He takes my contact info and VIN and tells me he'll get back to me. Turns out he forgot to check if my stuff was chrome or black so he called me back a couple hours later. Unfortunately they don't have the parts in stock but I have a promise from him that he will be in touch once the new ones arrive and all I have to do is show up with the old ones and they will hand me the updated parts. I have no reason to doubt that he will make good on his word.

Overall I've had nothing but good experiences with that shop and definitely recommend them to anyone in the CT area that needs a good dealer. Were it not for the no test rides policy (which I have spoken to several people there about) I would absolutely have bought my bike from them and never looked for another dealer after that.

I have had the complete opposite with them. I find their sales people very rude and barely give you the time of day. I choose shark cycle every time over that place.

Shark is where I ended up buying and I got that rude, dismissive treatment from them. Only bought there because they had the bike I wanted at the right price, definitely don't plan to go back. Funny how people will have completely opposite experiences with the same dealer.

Agreed. But "right price" changes everything doesn't it. Also really depends on the sales person you work with.

It does to a point. The bigger issue than price for me was that NECC didn't have the bike I wanted. They had a hardball or something that was nice but it definitely didn't have the curb appeal of the XR classic I ended up with and I would have had to immediately lose the ape hanger bars had I bought it. It was actually a bit cheaper than the bike I bought but mine came with the tri-oval exhaust and didn't require me to start wrenching the day I got it so it was a better deal imo. I've walked away from better prices/bikes before because the dealer or salesman was a dick. My Honda 919 came from Willows in Cheshire after Libby's treated me like a second rate loser. After I finally got all the info I needed from them I walked in to Willows, asked for a friend of a friend that works there, told him I knew there was a couple leftover 919's in the local warehouse and I wanted one. Signed the papers that day and left with my bike a week later. To this day I have not gone back to Libby's despite the fact that they are very conveniently located to my work so they would be a great place to get parts from.

I had the same experience with Libby's. I get the impression they think they are the be-all-end-all when it comes to bikes. No test rides, no discounts, rude buy-or-be-gone sales asshats. Haven't been there in about a decade, won't be back.

When I had my GoldWing 1800, I would go to Willow's for oil, filter, tires, etc. and they were a Victory dealer. The last time I went in there, I was buying the final oil change stuff for the Wing, they only had a used Vic on the floor. Salesman said they dropped Victory.

Shortly afterwards, they closed completely. *sigh*

I bought mine from Shark and have generally good experience from them. Got excellent service from Todd in service. When I bought my bike, I left with it THAT DAY. They wheeled it right into the garage and prepped it for me while I waited.

My old man said a wimminz is like a dealership.
They got something shiny that you just can't get enough of but if you can get a better deal somewhere else take it, even if it's used.
