What kind of handle bar mount are any of you using for GPS or cell phone on an XR?

I have a Samsung S4 and took the belt holster and rigged it up to the center of my handle bars. Pretty low profile, puts the phone (GPS) right in the center for easy view and works well for me.

Hard to beat RAM products: well made, reasonably priced (for that quality), hundreds of options, and even Vic uses them. Their home page is http://www.rammount.com/ , and the X-Grip page is http://www.rammount.com/products/apple/iphone_six/xgrip_overview ; I don't have an X-Grip, but a lot of folks use them, or similar RAM-compatible products from other companies, especially for phones.

For the base area, Vic sells a replacement lower clamp that you can put on the clutch or brake side, and then add RAM ball(s) to. Those parts are http://www.victorymotorcycles.com/en-us/shop/accessories/ramball-handlebar-clamp/pid-2877372 and http://www.victorymotorcycles.com/en-us/shop/accessories/ramball/pid-2877371 . I have these, use them occasionally, and no problem with them... except that they may hold devices closer to you than you'd like.

For a very classy looking, strong, well-made, and reasonably priced base for anywhere on your handlebars, I can also recommend a device from Mounting Innovations ( http://mountinginnovations.com/ ) that was pointed out to me on this or the other forum a year or so ago. That's their B-231U clamp, in chrome or black; see http://mountinginnovations.com/RAM Products/Bases/RAM Bases.htm (a little down the page) and http://mountinginnovations.com/RAM Products/Chrome/Chrome.htm .

Once you get bases like those, you can get extensions ("double socket arms" in RAM-speak) from RAM in assorted lengths (3", 6", etc.), and then mount some holder. I have a RAM holder specifically made for a Garmin Nuvi 200 series GPS, and another one for my particular iPhone. They make hundreds of these things.

So, I agree with the others who say to stick with RAM products, except that at the very base -- the ball holder -- you have some other options for cleaner mounts. Here are a couple pics (and the fact that I have an XCT, and not XR, is irrelevant for this discussion, IMHO):

You talking about that one from Mounting Innovations? Take a look at that page -- http://mountinginnovations.com/RAM Products/Bases/RAM Bases.htm -- and you can see some of what I think you're talking about -- the muffler-clamp ones that RAM itself makes -- just above the good one, i.e., the CHROME-B-231U.

That CHROME-B-231U is a really nice looking ball holder, and reasonable at $29 + shipping. I personally asked MI, a year or so back, if they would start providing that in black, as well as chrome, and the owner obliged me!

I got the one that goes between the clutch perch and the mirror. I like it raises the mirror up about 3/8 of an inch.
