I have a Garmin GPS that came with the power adapter and the cable to hardwire it to the bike. The power adapter works just fine BUT it is hot all the time. Has anyone wired an aftermarket GPS to a switched circuit on the Cross Country? If so, can you explain where on the bike you tapped in??

Thanks,

I thought about running the power through a keyed supply but I like being able to use my GPS without turning the ignition on. I did leave the GPS on for about ten hours while at work a few weeks ago but the power draw is so low that it didn't effect anything.

Would like to know a good way to run power off a keyed supply though for other uses.

A way to have a permanent connection, that shuts off when you turn off the key, is to connect to the accessory power outlet inside your fairing. That will cut off power when the key is out, and will power up when the key is in.

Look for the only connector that looks like the headlight bulbs connector, but is left unplugged. You have 3 of those total. One plugged into the low beam, one into the high beam, and one single, and ready to mingle. The single one is the one you want.

Thanks Cross, I really appreciate the help!!!

Drummer that's a good thought about using it even with the bike off but I can unplug mine and turn it on using battery if I need to.

So Crossroads, my XR is in storage so I don't have access to it to check, but did I read in one of your other posts that there is an unused switched power source in the headlight of XR's that I could tap into for my USB connector? The USB that I am installing draws power even if nothing is plugged in so I want to make sure it's on a switched source.
