Just visited the HP page and used the tool to pick the best HD for your particular riding style. I am not a big HD fan so can someone let me know which Victory bike matches up to the ones listed below? They have to be in competition to at least one or two of the Victory bikes. Also, please give me any pros and cons of the listed bikes below compared to its victory counter part.

Rocker C
Wide Glide
Softtail Deluxe
Fatboy Low
CVO Softtail Convertible

Thanks for all the help you guys will provide. cheers cheers

I dont think that Victory has to be in competition with every bike HD makes. As I have stated in past post, I just came of a Softail Deluxe and Victory has NOTHING in its stable that "matches" or "competes" with that bike. IMO Victory is in just as much competition with metric, Triumph and BMW.

But... I will play your reindeer game and would say the following:

Rocker C - No Victory but the Honda Fury is a good match and they say the Vision is UGLY.... Oiii But if I had to pick. Maybe a raked out Jackpot...

Wide Glide - Vegas

Softtail Deluxe - No match unless you but white walls on a 92c but even then... no match! The deluxe is the prettiest bike HD makes. (that is why I owned one thumb up)

Fatboy Low - Kingpin 8 Ball or a blacked out 92c

CVO Softtail Convertible - Maybe a Jackpot with bags and fly shield....

Pros and Cons -

Only the CVO can come close on performance. The Deluxe and Fatboy handle corner like crap and are slow. The Wide Glide is one of the best handling bike HD makes but the motor will shake loose a filling at a stop light. They get smooth as glass when they run, unlike the softails - it is opposite. You get a more tshirts with HD....:ltr:

The real bikes IMO that Victory targets in HD's lineup is:

ElectraGlide - Vision
VRod - Hammer
Road King - Cross Roads
Street Glide - Cross Country

Just so everyone knows, I have taken many test rides of the Victory bikes and have made my decision to purchase one for my retirement gift when I retire from the Army this year. The reason i asked the question is because I have never ridden a HD and when I found the page that lets you find a bike based on your ridding style, I thought I would see if the bikes they picked for me had any Victory competitors. I didn't realize that because I haven't had the chance to ride a HD that the motorcycle know it all would try and make me sound like an idiot. I thought that the purpose of the forum was to obtain and share knowledge about the bikes so a person could make a better decision. It appears that this is not what some of you use this forum for. Just so you know, you only remind everyone that you are still a HD snob just like the HD riders you talk about. I guess it true that a leopard can't change its spots. Very disappointed and confused.:(

I drive a Jackpot and absolutely love it. My best buddy drives a HD Fat Bob. We traded bikes for an hour one day and I can tell you the difference was night and day! I still love the history of the HD and their look. Victory bikes look great too. I must say, the ride on my Jackpot is far superior to what I experienced on the Fat Bob. I felt like the HD was going to fall apart as I was riding it. The Victory is much smoother and more powerful out of the box.

Cheers,

Tell us what kind of riding you plan on doing. That'll help some.

Is it 50/50 street/highway? 60/40? Do you plan on taking longer trips than 200 miles? Do you plan on putting more miles in the canyons, the city streets, farm country, highway, freeway (the slab)? Is looks more important or function? All these things come into play.

Well for a Soldier close to retirement, someone has some pretty thin skin! Now that YOU ADDED the rest of this I for one understand your question better. Based off your first post you got what you got from me...

No one is busting your chops. I gave you my honest opinion. Victory is a better motorcycle bar none! That is coming from a former HD rider. You asked about style, Victory does not compete with HD's style. The bikes are 180 in almost every way. They are however in some of the same classification like Bagger, muscle bike, bar hopper. What I said about the deluxe is true, Victory does not have a bike that has that old time look, nor should they! It is not part of their history. Victory on the other hand has the future vs the past. Harley tried new things like the Vrod and Rocker but the core HD customer (45 - 65 year old males) flamed them for it. It is hard for HD to get out of that mold when your customer base wants you to stay in it. Nothing wrong with that but I am not brand loyal. I love to RIDE, I love motorcycles. This is why I can tell you allot about all bikes. The same way my dad can tell you about every muscle car from the 60's. He was not brand loyal either....

As far as you calling me an HD Snob, check out my signature. I still ride a Busa, YES THAT IS A METRIC BIKE, RICE ROCKET, THAT NO HD SNOB WOULD BE FOUND DEAD ON!

Relax and re-read as many times as you need to figure this out.... I answered your question to the best of my ability not knowing you or your riding style! I have no idea what the hell you were looking for I guess! And my joke about the t shirts... well **** it was a joke. As far as Blackey, all he was doing was telling you to go out and ride. That said, good luck cuz most HD stealerships are not going to let you!

If you think that we are brash here then go hang out on the HD forum.... They will tell you to pack sand if you were even thinking about another bike other than an HD!!! I for one think that HD has some good bikes like the Dyna Wide Glide and V Rod. I thought the Deluxe was for me and I was sadly wrong.

The HD model selector is a very random one to say the least. Put that you prefer to spend under $15k, and you'll get one of the suggested options a $30k+ model.

That being said, the Victory website does have a similar selector, only it's straight forward. You can go to their website and click the "Find Your Bike" button, or follow this link.

You chose wide vs. skinny rear tire, you chose one or two seater, etc. Basically you chose the things that are important. Riding style wise, since you say you already rode the Vics, you choose the one that fit you best. The one that you know is right for you. And if you do test ride them, there's no way you wouldn't know. ;)

I ride a 08 Jackpot, but I started my search with a Fat Boy. But after the dealer fitted me, the Dyna Wide Glide was the way to go. This was 2003 when the Anniversary Edition came out ( gold trim on the seat cushion and the whole 9 yds.). But, I had to use the money for something else. Fast forward to 07, I looked at the HD again but the frame is somewhat short for me. I’m only 5’11”, but I have a long inseam – 35”. I look and felt like I was sitting on top of the bike, not nestled in the bike. By now my interest had grown to include the VRod (this was before the Muscle which would have made my decision much harder), the M109R (I hate the exhaust note – flat and I don’t care for the rise of the shaft drive) and the Hammer S.
The Hammer knocked the rest out the box. I liked it so much that I tried to get my wife to fly home alone, while I purchase and ride the bike home from W. Palm Beach, Fl. But the customer service rep and my wife talked me out of it. When I got back to Maryland, which is M109 territory now, I tried the Hammer and it didn’t speak to me. I tried just about all the bikes in the store and gave up. I thanked the rep and proceeded to leave when this dusty silver bike shined a sparkle of light as I walked out the door. With my hand on the door, it called me back and I bought it on the spot.
We have been through hell together and she doesn’t like me riding anything else. I also want a XR or XC, but I’m afraid Vicki would kill me. You know her middle is Christine…
Ride whatever works for you, at the end of the day, it's the ride.

H-D has the model seletor and Victory has sit your butt on it and seletor. It is as simple as going to a Victory dealer look around, find what you like and give it a try. If you like it buy it, then go to to H-D and do the same, and see where that gets you.

I don't think anyone meant more then playfull banter at worse. So lighten up. This is the web and things get twisted due to lack of inflection all the time. Plus you can check out his sig, and see he was a squid. Like you would expect more:ltr:

Rocker is closest to a JackPot
Wide Glide is a direct cross to a Vegas
Softail is pretty much it's own beast.[All Vics use hidden shocks] Maybe an 02-03C model, but it would be a streatch
Fatboy Low is a KP
CVO STC is a Vegas with Bags and a shield

To go further....
Vision Street is a Road Glide
Vision Tour is an Ultra
Cross Country is a Street Glide
Cross Roads is a Road King

Thanks Kevin. The comparison you just provided is all I was asking for. I have never owned or had a chance to ride a HD so that is why I asked the question.

As for the good Navy Chief thinking I am thin skinned, he couldn't be farther from the truth. You would think that a man who has dedicated a part of his life standing up for others, he would understand why I said what I said. Sometimes the simple answer is the best answer and no you don't always get all the information you think you need. I am pretty sure the military has tought him to either ask for more information or answer the question the way it was asked. Not everyone wants to hear the smart remarks.

It was a simple question that could have been answered with a simple answer if someone knew the answer.

Again, thank Kevin for just answering the question the way it was written. thumb up

I had the privilege of going to a Victory Tech class in 2007 to learn about servicing the Visions.

The Victory rep that was there made it very clear that at that time the Vegas framed bikes (The Vegas frame bikes in 07 was, the Vegas, Hammer, Kingpin and Jackpot) were not in any way trying to compete with HD. The Vision was further testimony to that.

The rep said that the early bikes were designed to bite into the HD pie and Victory realized they could not do it.

An argument can be made now that the X bikes are more of a competing effort to HD.

And Victory is winning the argument

I have rode HD's for many years as well as other makers. Victory won me over last fall. I am truly enjoying my XC. Light, nimble, and comfortable

Jesus H. Christ! Kevin gave you the same answer I did, but what ever!

Your right, it was a simple question and I gave you a simple answer... What part of my orginial post did you take offense? I really want to know cuz you got your panty in all kinds of a wad?

Was it the Tshirts comment or maybe the fact that I said "IMO" that stands for 'In my opinion" Dude it was my opinion, I am still baffled that you took this so high and right?

Good Luck in what you choose and please relax! cheers

And if you need an apology for me somehow treading on your sense of internet morality, I am sorry! I honestly was not trying to be mean or facetious.

Kevin,

As far your comment about a squid! cheers

Interesting info on video's

I'd watched these video's after trading my Road King in for the Kingpin. I instantly noticed a major difference between the two bikes based on the test ride, which is what sold me. The video's were interesting confirmation, and explanation of some questions I had regarding noises on my HD, that I never got a real answer to, such as the "clunk" when shifting into gear.

Pre-sales experience:
HD had another sales person shadow me while on the test ride.

Victory told me to pick "any" bike on the floor, filled the tank, told me to be back before they closed at 6PM! thumb up
