Got my appointment set to go see Lloyd, unfortunately it is not until mid Sept. Doing cams, adjustable timing and PCV. Already have Big Honker exhaust and Lloydz air filter.....

So now I have a month and a half to decide which cams I want.....do I go with the standard VM1 cams or go for the new touring cams......hmmmmm:confused:

Anyone running the touring cams in a XCT that can give an overview of your thoughts and what numbers you put up. Appears that most VM1 cam set ups run about 108/115.

Performance has become addicting... Just when I thought I was through for a while I find I am rolling up to Lloydz as well with... Ah heck, you.. lol My vote is the tour cams, I have read about as many XCT reports as I have Visions but you know I am not on a XCT sooooo. Looking forward to the dyno/tune time on mine as well as the ride up bro..... Like a kid counting down to Christmas!cheers

That... and you get used to the performance very quickly. The first time you ride it you're saying "**** THE BED!!!!" right out loud.... but after a month it just feels normal again. For this reason I suggest people get as much power as they can afford.

All I wanted was a graph like I saw years ago on Lloydz site, it was 112 H/120 T. Bike came home with 118/122 and I was happy... for a minute. Then Torque tubes, 120/130... then stroker, 126/134.

Go big or you'll regret it.

Any idea what kind of life in miles an engine with your set up will get as a daily driver that gets beat on regularly? More often than not, putting in a bunch of high performance parts will take miles of the life expectancy of the motor. I'm just curious if you or anybody you know has big power (that uses it daily) and still got or getting close to 100k miles. I too dream of big bore kits, cams, turbo and spanking everything on the road with it. The only thing holding me back (besides the money) is fear of taking out the engine way before it's time.

1) It has 75K miles of MY miles on it....It IS my daily driver and ONLY bike. It has never used a drop of oil. I routinely ride 500 mile days on it.

2) There are no 'high performance' parts in it, everything is very mild. The engine is not high strung or quirky at all. Tell the Harley guys your cams are .412" lift (VM-1) or .484" lift (mine)... They'll laugh at how you have cute little baby cams.

3) You can't "beat on it" on public roadways. On a stock bike making 75/92 you can run it hard... but a bike that makes 67% more power than that? Have you ridden a cruiser with 134 ft.-lbs. of torque at the rear wheel? Come flog this bike... bring some stainless steel balls with ya. The more power you have, the less you can "beat on it".

4) They make engines every day. If it wears out that's the perfect excuse to build it bigger/stronger. When this one gets tired, it'll become 122 cubic inches.

5) It's like getting a tattoo... If you get one the size of a quarter, you will spend the rest of your life wishing you had done it bigger.

Good info, thanks. One last question how many miles were on it when you put the extra power in her? Makes sense when you say if you have more power you can't really beat on it in town. As it is now, I can't really get through the gears. When I hammer it at the green light, I can only get to 2nd gear when the speedo hits the posted speed limit and it's time to let off. If I catch you right, that's what you're getting at, not enough room to beat on it in town.

If you need a halfway point for the night I am in La Plata right off US 301. You are welcome to the spare bedroom.

As to the Cams, from what I am gathering the Touring Cams according to Ryland require some clearance work in the head and give you another 4/4 above 4000. After chatting with him at length it is a bit pricy for a little gain. But then again if you follow the motto "if a little is good, alot is better, then excess is just about right".

There is a post "heading to the Vic shop tonight" one of the guys has the touring cams on the bike and posted a dyno chart.

It was 104" for 22,000 miles. It became a 110" 27,000 miles ago.

Makes sense when you say if you have more power you can't really beat on it in town. If I catch you right, that's what you're getting at, not enough room to beat on it in town.
Nope, that's not what I'm getting at. Who cares about "in town"?

I'm saying the bike will go from a dead stop to 100 mph in less than 700 feet/7-1/2 seconds... and that it's just starting to accelerate at 100... and that the speedo whips right past 120 with no sign of slowing.

I'm saying that if you are cruising along at 65 and open the throttle, 100 mph is just a couple of seconds away... and if you open the throttle at 2000 rpm in 1st gear the bike will flip over backward on top of you... and if you catch 2nd gear right it will carry the front wheel 8" off the ground AND lay a black ribbon on the asphalt at the same time.

I'm saying that if the throttle is on it is VERY difficult to steer because the forward thrust is so strong... and that the bike devours distance in a way that's hard to explain.

If your bike has never seen 4500 rpm because you think its fragile, or if you don't want to exceed the posted speed limit, this discussion is a waste of time.

I have 8,800 miles on her. I have hit the rev limiter and I've not had it to 120 but have had it to 110 a few and over 100 more times than I can count. Just not in town, cop cars are too plenty in town so I'll hammer it just until I hit posted speed. When I go out on weekend rides, I beat on her. I never, never baby my bike. I bought a Victory for American muscle (heavy on muscle) I don't know what 1/8 throttle feels like because I'm never that easy.

I can't use my power in town, but can and always do use my power on my weekend rides. There's my issue, when I have the throttle rolled all the way back and I'm going through the gears outside of town and try to open the throttle more but there is no more, then I'm thinking I need more power. If you say you can't ride with the hammer all the way down because it's just too much, then that sounds just right to me.

Your making the hair stand up on the back of my neck!!!

I am a very aggressive driver in a cage or on a bike. I can't do the speed limit. Very few cops will bother you if your 10 over. And that is my minimum. If your doing the speed limit I will pass you. I want to be the first guy through the intersection..... Yes this will get me killed some day by one of those slow thinking idiots that run yellow lights that turn red before they get through the intersection. If your doing less than the speed limit I will be inches from your ass trying to wake you up or get around you. I get a real kick out of sliding my Ranger sideways on on/off ramps. Now I don't do this unless I have the ramp to my self. The object is to NOT put anyone else at risk or in danger.
I am not a show off and drive slow with a passenger, car or bike. I don't drive hard or show off when I am with someone. That's not what it's about........
And to make things worse my XCT brings out the the absolute worst in me. I used to have a C90 and that bike made me relax ride normal.
There is something about the XCT. I have that bike on the pin daily.
And it's not about speed. Any idiot can ride fast.
How fast you get to fast or what ever speed you want.... Now that is what it's about..........

I do not have the XCT. I do have the '12 XC w/ touring cams installed by Kyle. Get them. You will not be disappointed. Attached is my chart.

I don't race. Very seldom do I ride 2 up. I cruise most of the time. I have 4,500 miles on the bike. My longest ride was 300 miles round trip. However, I have the comfort of knowing that if I ever need those horses I have them. They are just a quarter inch turn away.

A '12 HD V-Rod Muscle at stage two can't out run it.

Looks like the touring cam is about 5ftlbs hotter at 2700 and about 10hp hotter maxed out... I think I have me answer.

It will get you killed in Vegas, running through the yellow / red here is normal, be careful if you ever visit here.


If your doing less than the speed limit I will be inches from your ass trying to wake you up or get around you.
Another dangerous practice, riding someone’s ass will get you killed.

The object is to NOT put anyone else at risk or in danger.
Really, sounds like you're doing just that when you practice the above, what am I missing?

robvision--if you come to my area and ride inches off my ass, I suggest you have one foot on the brake and damned fast reflexes. Stealth dogs have been know to run out in front of me thus forcing very unexpected full on stops.....just sayin.....

don't know exactly what the dollar is for install on the touring cams vs the VM1's, I know there is a little extra work, but from what I am told it aint much. I think I was told, or read somewhere the price dif was a couple hundred bucks.

I do the same, I'm not a slow poke but regardless of what speed I'm going, you get on my tail and one way or another you will get off my tail...that's a promise. I had a pickup right up on me, I tapped the brakes and he got closer. I jammed the brakes pretty good and he got within inches. I went slower and slower and slower, down to 10 miles an hour. He remained inches from me and refused to go around. So I did the logical thing. I came to a complete stop, got off and at a full sprint went straight for his driver door to pull him out and beat him within an inch of his life. Lucky for both of us, he smoked his tires in reverse and got the heck out of there. I smiled and waved goodbye to him. I know, it's not the right thing to do, I would go to jail for it but every man has his breaking point. I don't play well with others when they push my buttons.

If you can't drive the speed limit then let someone else drive..

People around here get a real kick out of being at the front of a long line of traffic running along we'll below the speed limit. It's a real problem. It creates massive traffic tie ups. The police only go after the speeders. Never the Aholes holding up the flow of traffic.

Just tonight I was out on the bike. This guy waits till I am right on top of him then he pulls out in front of me.... I can live with that but then he couldn't find the gas pedal... We were now doing half the speed limit at his best... Was I on his ass YES I WAS

Did this guy need to pull out in front of me? No he didn't. There was no one behind me.
Did he see me? Damn right he did. It was dark out and I have HID lights and two high power LED driving lights.

People like this piss me off. And it's a real issue out there...........

I get that and agree. I'm not one of those, I'm a 5 over kind of guy (in town). At least 10 or more out of town. For those that you're talking about, I'll make sure they know how I feel about them before I blow past them. I'm of the opinion that folks who drive way below the speed limit are just as dangerous as folks who drive above the speed limit. They cause jams and rear end collisions. They should be ticketed just the same as a speeder. If you can't go the speed limit, get a bicycle. I failed my first driving test when I was 16 for get this...being TOO cautions. They said I would cause traffic problems and accidents. I agree with them. My second test, I went 5 over the speed limit and did "California stops" at the intersection. I scored 100% :D

I didn't mean to come across as an ass. But I thought some would think that after reading it....

It is just so frustrating to drive here.

Out on the hwy , lets say 2 lanes in each direction , we now have people that will drive beside another car doing less than the speed limit so that NO ONE CAN PASS....... WTF
If you don't get on there ass and many will not, they will stay there holding up traffic. And we have signs that say KEEP RIGHT ACCEPT TO PASS.....

So when you deal with this every day you tend to get very aggressive. If your not the first through the intersection and you let the guy beside you a head of you ..... You may be following him at half the speed limit down the road......
