Hello all. Just traded in my Kawasaki Z1000 for a 2014 XC. Pretty excited. I have a goldwing as well but I'm going to sell that. The Z was a blast but eventually i was going to get popped for doing wheelies. Plus all my friends have cruisers. My first bike was a suzuki boulevard C90. This XC is flat gray and black. My favorite color scheme on them. Kenwood deck, aftermarket pipes (no idea what kind I'll post about that later I'd like to figure out what they are) has 21" front wheel and fender, matching rear wheel. O2s unplugged. The thing is LOUD and looks damn good. Only gotten to take her out once so far yesterday on a rare 70 degree February day in Connecticut lol.

You will have questions and we have answers, so proceed with 'em. Vics are a very entertaining bike and so easy to service. They handle extremely well in the twisties if you put the right air in; 38-40 front / 40-42 rear and 25+ in the rear shock. Don't hesitate to grab 4500+ rpm shifts and ride above 2500 rpm. I hope you got the owners manual and you will read it. That's important, because there are some things a bout Vics that are different, like checking the oil level. I hope you will enjoy yours at least as much as I have been enjoying mine. Oh, and welcome from the Pacific Northwet.

Yup, Everything Ric said. Have a good time with it. There is a reason it has those sporty inverted forks.

I can't seem to post anything new or comment on other posts. Not sure why.
Anyway one question I had. Has anyone had a clutch chatter? Here's a scenario I can duplicate this clutch chatter every time. Take off in first pull in the clutch like you are ready to shift to second but then you have to slow down instead, release the clutch smoothly and as soon as it starts to grab there's an audible rattle, chattering from the clutch that is also felt as a vibration. Once the clutch is fully engaged its gone. I posted this on a facebook site and got a bunch of people telling me I'm not riding right, I don't need that info lol I have many thousands of miles on bikes, typically I rev match when downshifting and rarely downshift to first while going more than 5mph but this was a parking lot thing that caused me to feel the issue so I duplicated it since it was so strange to me. One person said torque compensator and that my belt was too loose, belt is good and adjusted and it has fresh oil.

After another post or two you should be good to go. Its a safeguard against the bad guys.

How many miles?
Oil level?
What oil?
I run my belt a tad loose, so we know that's not the problem. My bike doesn't have that compensator, so I can't address that.

I run my belt a tad loose, so we know that's not the problem. My bike doesn't have that compensator, so I can't address that.
its a 2014 XC 9500 miles. Don't know what oil I just bought it from mom's it was serviced there. The oil looks fresh and clean level right at the top.

Best to check oil just as you return home from a long hard ride. Then its up to operating temp. Yup, bike's gotta be upright.

I triple dough that oil has anything to do with it. Your clutch could be out of adjustment. Check play when its over night cold. Never adjust clutch when its warm or hot. Maybe compensation could be what your hearing but you would have to pull primary to check it.
Any troubleshooting answers on FB take with a huge grain of salt

Yea i found out quickly that a lot of people are keyboard mechanics on the facebook page that don't have the slightest idea what they are talking about. I mean i was a car mechanic I've not done clutches on a bike but these seem pretty damn simple to do. My clutch seems to be engaging just fine and seems to be adjusted well by feel. It is fully disengaging and fully engaging no problem and doesn't slip. It's a strange thing I've never experienced. Its like as the clutch is trying to catch up the the wheel speed it is skipping like it's slip/sticking super fast. Sounds like a box of marbles until the speeds match and its fully engaged. I can avoid it by rev matching but that doesn't fix if there's a problem.

Top right of your screen is "User CP" click that

Now look to the left and scroll down to "Edit Signature?

The year and model was in my original post and in a second post on here. I don't add signatures. Plus it's hard to navigate on mobile.

It didn't seem like it but do you "feel" the clutch chatter or is it just a noise? Also, do you experience it going straight or turning? If you feel the noise (aka chatter) and it's adjusted correctly it may be a bad clutch. Not the first place I'd go but a thought. The other is a bit more ominous in that there is a spacer or some such in the tranny that will make a noise like you describe when turning ( I think left) at a slow speed in 1st or 2nd gear. Again, start with all the simple stuff including considering (IMHO) changing the oil to factory Vic oil (only because it's "guaranteed" to be the correct oil), double check the adjustment and condition of the lever and cables and other stuff suggested above. Keep it simple until you've exhausted all the easy (read cheap) solutions. - And NO I'm not a mechanic but I do play one on Facebook occasionally :wink

Thanks for the input. It happens straight line or turning, doesn't matter. It can be felt as a vibration a heard. I don't know what oil was used but it was serviced at moms Foxboro. I may change the oil again to what i usually use, rotella t6 and see if it makes any difference. I just bought the bike and have mentioned it to my salesman. When out gets warmer I'll bring it to them to listen to.
