As I stated in my introduction post I want to put together a custom bagger that I can "ride" and have been evaluating the Victory Cross Country as the base for that build. I have been lurking on this site to gain as much information as possible and to familiarize myself with the bike and the potential for mods. The main mods I want to make right off the bat are stretched and extended bags (probably complete new rear end), 23" wheel kit, handlebars, aftermarket exhaust, grips, seat, painted inner fairing, and custom paint. I want to be mindful of potential resale value but since I will be making so many modifications I understand that the potential buyer pool down the road will already be limited by my customization. Right now I have it down between an 8ball XC and the XC itself and to finally get to the point..."which one" is what I am having a problem with. As I understand it there are 4 primary differences between the two; XC has cruise, a radio, abs, and is not blacked out with regards to the forks and the cyclinder cover. I have never had abs on a bike so I don't think I will be missing that much and the same goes with cruise. There are plenty of aftermarket cruise solutions for less than the $500 that the cruise costs. As far as the radio, I usually wear earbuds but could easily add on later if desired and the blacked out forks will probably go well with the look that I am going for. There are 2014 8balls in my area for $14,999 and the XCs are $18,999. I really would like to stay new so that I can take advantage of a warranty. I dont want to spend a ton on mods then not be able to ride it. To me, that $4k difference goes a long way with the mods that I want. So, I really wanted to put all of this out there for some opinions or maybe to find out if there is a difference between the two that I am missing. I appreciate any feedback on the topic.

Polaris warranty's are a joke!!!!
If you paint it or put a 23" wheel on it they will void your warranty. You can't even put pipes on it unless they are Victory brand.

Hell if you remove your tank badges they will try to find a way to void it by claiming they doubled as vibration dapners or something!! Lol

So knowing that if your going full custom I say just buy a used one. I'm on my 6th Victory and I'm putting cams into a brand new Magnum with just over 500 miles on it there goes my free 5year warranty and I'm not the least bit worried!

If you are planning major modding, the warranty should not be a big concern....
As far as pricing, go to a different dealer! The standard '14 XC should be way under 19K.
If you are interested in resale GET the CRUISE and RADIO!!!! These bikes can eat up some serious miles, and future potential buyers would be put off by the ommision of those items. Pretty much every custom bagger I have ever seen has a bangin' stereo as well as the wheel, paint, etc.
There may be rebates out there as well (I know there were some in the late fall), so look around for leftovers.

PS, the XC is a FANTASTIC platform for building a custom baggers. Tons of storage, comfortable, great handling (even with a 23"). You may not want to sell it ever :D

Awesome input. Thanks. I was also wondering whether or not the warranty was worth it. @Luvmyride...thanks as well. I have been looking at a lot of your posts. Definitely like what you have done with yours.

BTW...is there a way to access someone's gallery directly from their profile? I try to click on people's names and view them but either can't find it or no one has a gallery.

Welcome to the forum. I'm new here too and have ready and learned alot.

If you are looking for pictures, I have found the best is in the banner at the top of the site, click on the option called "Garages".

Good luck with the build.

what your planing to do will coast you a good $5000 and more. Your best bet would be look for a bike that has it done all ready that way you'll save some money.
Get a hold of HMD and see it they know of some bikes for sale.
all so search the net and facebook for some good used bikes

thanks...Garage is a big help. Didnt even know those were there.

@Vision Johnny...you are right. I'm thinking closer to 10k in mods/paint but honestly I couldn't find one the exact way I want it and that is what I am going for.

Since the discussion shifted to buying one used I checked the stock at one of the local shops. They have one with 1800 miles for 14.4. I would assume that this comes with abs and cruise but will call today. Are there any years on these that one would want to stay away from?
