Anyone,
I need some help with my 2001 V92 it will only run at a high RPM, I have called every shop within 100 miles and no one will touch it theres a Polaris place in McKinney Texas that still work on the newer models but wont touch the 01. They acted like I should just sale it for scrap medal. Im 68 miles North of Dallas if anyone on here knows of anyone that might be able to work on my bike. Ive had it for years and really love it. any help would be very appreciated.

Contact Rylan Vos at the Vic Shop. He can probably point you in the right direction to troubleshoot the issue.

Having said that; have you checked the vacuum lines and do you have a way to check the battery/alternator/regulator? This is likely one of those process of elimination issues. Changing the plugs or at least checking the gap and visually checking the plug wires for cracks could be a start. See if the compression is equal in both cylinders.

Any independent shop should be able to do these checks if you are unable. I would also clean the throttle body real good while also looking for cracks and leaks on the rubber boot.

I agree with Bbob, check for vacuum leaks. The carb boot does get hard and crack from heat.. That wasn’t an uncommon problem.

Also, the tps can go bad or even lose its setting. When I first bought my Kingpin it had sat at the dealer all winter and the battery was completely dead. They had to charge it to let me ride it.
Long story short, it ran real rich. I road it for test ride and rode it home. But it would foul plugs and be hard to start and run real rough or die at idle. After a bunch of diagnosis they figured out the tps was 20 points rich, they adjusted it and it was good after that.

Another possibility, have you checked the high idle cable and throttle cable? One of those could be freyed or bound up somehow.

Kevin cross was a Victory mechanic from the beginning. You can also use a older GM diagnostic code reader on the Pre- freedom motors. Noe on here maybe able to help you, he's from the Houston area. Family Powersports in Lubbock, Tx works on Victory's.

I would also clean the throttle body. On the older Victory's the would get nasty and barely run.

Backfired

My bike backfired on me cranking it up yesterday at a local store. It blew air onto my left leg. Did not start. I went ahead and cranked it up. It would idle at 2000 rpm instead of 1000 rpm. It also ran like crap. Shut it off. Checked the vacuum lines and sure enough it had blown one off by the top from of the rear cylinder by the throttle bodies. Put the line back on. It cranked right up after that and rode it home. It might be worth checking around on it with a good flash light to see if anything looks out of place or cracked.

Thank you very much for the contact information, I have done all the rest new plugs, I pulled the tank and put in fresh fuel.. I didn't think it had a throttle body ? thought it was direct injection ?

Direct injection refers to the electronic fuel injection. I don't know if it is direct injection. I doubt it. That's more of a newer technology and not so well liked because the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber like the name implies instead of above the intake valve where it also doubles to keep the valve clean.

The throttle body is where the air comes in. Tarzan has a good point about it possibly being the TPS. I wonder if the throttle position needs to be reset. I've read where they can go wonky out of the blue for no known reason.

Kevin Cross is definitely another well known mechanic who would have better input than most of us. I like to try what we can think of first before bothering any of them just so they can be told what has already been tried and checked.

The fuel injection system is like the General Motors throttle body in the 1990's. They have to be cleaned from time to time. I had a 03 Vegas, 03 Touring Cruiser and a 04 Touring Cruiser before the Cross Country. I had to clean the throttle body's at least once a year. My 2011 XC has never been cleaned and runs and idles fine. I don't know what was done to accomplish this other than the way the air filter is set up. There is also a simple way to rest your TPS. I have it written down somewhere I'll see if I can find it and post it.

Can confirm. Deposits build up on the valve stem mainly due to the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) where previously the fuel charge would keep them clean.

You could also try Noe Martinez (NOEMTZ) down near Houston, that is a heck of a lot closer than Rylan is. Also you could try Piper Performance in Decatur, I know he does dyno's on Vics.

I can't find the direction on resetting the TPS, but I think this is the correct format. Place hand on throttle, key off. Turn the key on and open throttle all the way in a 5 second count. Release throttle and let it slam shut. Turn key off. Turn key on and start.

Still no luck finding anyone within a 100 miles willing to look at it :( does anyone have a vacuum diagram for the victory v92 ? and the full instructions on how o reset the TPS I ran about half a tank of fuel with cleaner through it today riding it ( rough Riding ) it will still only run high rpm and never cleared up. thanks for any and all help

Also check the throttle body gooseneck for cracking or coming apart. But it sure sounds like a major vacuum leak, hose or caps.

Congratz to our helpful brotherhood of VIC faithful and BULLSHIT to all the dealerships and shops who categorically refuse to touch a Victory because "they're out of business you know, we can't get parts" - Really? I wasn't aware of that, so this is a piece of junk? "No, not right now but soon enough so you'd better jump ship if you're smart like us". BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT. Twenty years from now they'll still be shaking their heads saying look at those fools on those dinosaur Victories (damn they're sweet rides). I'll be on RICZ's 3-wheeler by then, towing him behind me on a gurney, but we'll both be giving thumbs up to the Vics passing us on the road - TTWFO!! Keep 'em running boys.

Have you tried Strokers in Dallas, TX? Rick Fairless was and remains one of the consultants Polaris uses for design work and ideas on their motorcycles. They still continue to do work on Victory Motorcycles. I'd be very surprised if they'd turn you away. In fact, if they did, I'd go their anyway and talk to Rick himself, he's always their somewhere. Strokers is one of my go to places anytime I'm near the area. Also, have you talked to Rylan Vos at The Vic Shop as was also suggested?

Since the carb cleaner didn't do anything, it again points to a mechanical issue. Like has been suggested frequently, a vacuum leak which is a fairly common occurrence on that series of Victory. Or something like a faulty TPS or some other related ignition item. I know I've seen Rylan post pictures of split and cracked rubber manifold parts that can be very difficult to verify with everything still connected and in place.

So you're saying that Strokers' Dallas refused to look at it? Really? I just find that hard to believe. I can't picture Rick Fairless knowing that his service dept is telling a Victory owner to take a hike... But you have some good ideas to follow up with, so..

I was at Strokers in Dallas today and spoke to Rick Fairless directly. He welcomes you and your Victory into their shop. Any Victory model, from any year for any reason. Rick and his team are still loving on Victory motorcycles. He thanked me for recommending Strokers on the forum.

We also talked a lot about what he was doing with Victory over the years as well as what he was doing with Polaris Indian. Remember, Rick was burned twice by Polaris. Once as a Victory Motorcycles dealer and again as a major Victory accessories supplier. So yea, don't expect to see Strokers bringing in Polaris Indian.

But, get you and your Victory to Strokers. They'll be able to diagnose and fix your bike. They're a great shop that I enjoy stopping at whenever I'm in the area.
